Prediction: Xbox Scorpio will have exclusive games…eventually.

I'm predicting that the new Project Scorpio console will eventually have it's own exclusive games, despite what Microsoft and Phil Spencer say.

Of course it will. You don't release a console that's 4.5X stronger and just have the same games.

cleft53657d ago

The problem with this is that it fractures the market. So if you want the Xbox that places all of the Xbox games you now need the Xbox Scorpio. Otherwise you are getting left behind. Microsoft exec claimed that no one would be left behind but this clear won't be the case when the exclusives roll out.

n4rc3657d ago

so you dont think in 5 years from now, once scorpio is hitting its stride and xb1 is 8 years old that nobody should push things forward?

nobody left behind means when scorpio arrives.. not forever.

Fin_The_Human3657d ago

Prediction: the sun will come out tomorrow.... What a pointless article.

_-EDMIX-_3656d ago

Just like you don't see a GPU release without getting exclusives right bro?

...

The power is irrelevant , the install base size is what's really important and at the end of the day most companies cannot risk releasing games on a specific set of hardware SOLELY based on power.

Consider that is something you don't even see amongst the gaming community on PC. You know of a developer that's making an exclusive for the GTX 1080?

Also why would Microsoft fragment its own install base if its goal is to actually sell software? So make a piece of software on it to lease install base? Lol why?

The goal is to sell the most software which actually makes more money than Hardware the concept of Microsoft making an exclusive on a piece of Hardware doesn't even fit with what we know them currently to be doing right now. did you just not see their press conference at E3 where they announced almost all of their games would be going on PC in the first place?

LMFAO buddy..... buddy

That's like saying you don't release a new GPU without having a bunch of developers on board to make games exclusively for it....well most manufacturers actually do buddy have you not really thought about this the same way the PC market currently is?

PistolsAtDawn3657d ago

...and COD will switch back to MS. I mean come on, more powerful console, with more COD gamers, better network and controller...then multiple VR device options that can play the full game uncompromised. I'm sure there are already deals in the works.

uth113657d ago

I doubt the CoD deal is about specs. It's about money, PS4 has the bigger audience this gen.

xfiles20993657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

Sony has the bigger audience period Playstation has a much larger following than Xbox has Especially world wide. That is just fact

JJShredder3657d ago

MS is in kind of a tough spot here. They get so much shit for supposedly restricting devs on what they can and cannot do on their platforms but if they allow devs the freedom to focus on Scorpio and release games just for that, they will still get shit on.

_-EDMIX-_3656d ago

But Microsoft is correct to maintain the structure of their install base they do not want to fragment their own Market.

If their goal is to sell the most software they can't actually do that if they're restricting some software on a specific sku is that not the reason why they're specifically even going on PC and Xbox as one thing?

Underworld3657d ago

This is one of the things I'm worried about and why I hate them. The current PS4 and XB1 are just fine.

cleft53657d ago

I look at Gears 4 or God of War and I am seeing games that look amazing, so why do we need to fracture the market in this way. Hell look at Zelda WiiU on a less powerful console than the Xbox One and PS4. Its not about a new console, its about developers that understand how to get the most out of the hardware.

Zeref3657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

All games will work on Xbox One. But I doubt that will be the case in 4 or 5 years. but by then the Xbox One will be at least 7 years old. That's more than a normal console generation. So its really not a big deal. The fact that we don't have to deal with Backwards Compatibility and remasters anymore is a huge deal. Since all games will continue to work.

xfiles20993657d ago

I doubt Gears of War is running on Xbox Dollars to Doughnuts it was running on PC. Now God of War was running on a standard PS4 Remember awhile back when Devs were saying the PS4 was 50% more powerful than the Xbone I think Sony has finally unleashed that power and gave Devs freedom to use the maximum cores they can use. Games just look better on PS4 in 2016.

Errorist763656d ago

Gears 4 only looks amazing on PC. That's why they showed most of it running on PC at the press conference.

_-EDMIX-_3656d ago

With Microsoft announcing so many games going to PC and then announcing Halo 6 will come to PC upon release I do not believe they're going to fragment their install base especially considering it contradicts their current moves.

I don't even think it benefits Sony or Microsoft the fragment their own install base even if years go by and they're getting ready to release the Next Generation Xbox or next generation PlayStation 5 I don't think you would even see exclusives on those platforms as it wouldn't really make much sense.

It's an extremely huge install base to ignore. Gaming is still a business and it's about money.

How could you make money if you're releasing games on a lesser install base while also planning another platform?

It would make more financial sense to merely release their games normally until they're ready to move on to the next Generation the entire point of these upgrades is to increase performance not exclusively create a different Market in fragment the current install base..

n4rc3657d ago

not a really bold prediction.. its certain to happen 100%.. just a matter of when

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle53d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn255d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn254d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown55d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay54d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay54d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac54d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger55d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300055d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde55d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood55d ago (Edited 55d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde54d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".

LucasArts gave Jango Fett his own game in 2002, and it pulled Star Wars into a much dirtier, rougher, and more interesting corner of the galaxy.
