Sony's two big mistakes

Sony has just postponed the launch of its Blu-ray players again, which prompts the question: Is Sony really going to get the PlayStation 3 out this year, even in Japan, and if so, what sort of specificaiton will it have? There seem to be few or no real facts around, but there are plenty of negative rumours..........Sony has made two big mistakes. The first is the design of the PS3, which seems to be too ambitious for the company to handle....Sony's second big mistake is strategic, and concerns its use of the Blu-ray disc format. Well at least according to Guardian.co.uk's Jack Schofield, this is where Sony went wrong.

Mistake one) Having SSJ04 as their PR guy
two) Attempting to create a ps3

Joking

good one. ssj jokes never get old.

We've seen relative large companies going down before. It wouldn't surprise me if Sony is next

Gamer137189d ago

If sony don,t launch this year Xbox 360 lead will be even larger and everyone is going to get a 360 by the end of the year unless they are a true sony fanboys.

OutLaw7189d ago

Sony has to worry about the Wii in Japan and here if they don't release on time. I already have a 360 and for some crazy reason I want to buy a Wii. If another delay happens it's over for them. Even HD DVD will soon make a name for itself being half of the price of a Blu Ray Player.

SjaakHaas7189d ago

@ Outlaw,

Thats exactly the same way i feel about it!

SjaakHaas7189d ago

The best example is this one:

"The PlayStation 2 certainly benefitted from providing buyers with a cheap DVD player as well as a games console. However, the DVD format was agreed in 1995 and the first players went on sale in Japan in 1996. The PlayStation 2 wasn't launched in Japan until March 2000, roughly four years later. By the time most US buyers were shopping for a new games console, DVD was already an attractive and established format.

If Sony intended to repeat this successful strategy, it should have included Blu-ray in the PS4 in 2010-11.

However, with the PS3, Sony is attempting to do the reverse, and pull off a strategy that has never worked. Instead of capitalising on a successful video format, it's trying to use the PS3 to establish what is starting to look like an unsuccessful one."

And i thinks he's got a very good point indeed.

And not only an unsucessful one, but one that costs the amount of an LCD HDTV ($1300), and one where the Blu-Ray movies will be around 40-45 bucks each. SONY IS SCREWED

I must agree that their strategy does seem very unlikely to succeed.

I would prefer a "Starfield" one.

DefenderOfDoom24d ago (Edited 4d ago )

These are the same Bethesda tables from FX3 now upgraded for VR . I bought this Bethesda pack for Pinball FX3 around 5 years ago. But when the new Pinball FX came out a few years ago , they wanted me to buy the same tables again, which is ridiculous .

Seven cancelled racing video games that could have been great

From a fourth Project CARS to a Dakar-style open-world racer that set the template for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Here are seven racing games that didn’t quite make it.

Blur was decent, although the control system could've been better, Blur 2 in the video looks good. Project Cars was massively overrated and full of bugs, Dirt 3 yes, a new Dirt Rally no, rally games have passed me by. Project Gotham Racing 5, Ridge Racer 8, Wave Race 4, Crash Team Racing 2 are up there. Ridge Racer Unbounded had everything apart from the gameplay, there was also Split Second which was decent, the Burnout series became boring as with rally and F1 games. A new Wipeout is due, also F-Zero. I wouldn't say no to Outrun 2 on current consoles as long as it includes the exclusive Xbox tracks, then Outrun 3. Wipeout VR on the PS4 was awesome, that's due a sequel. I remember Buggy Boy on the Commodore 64 and Spectrum, that'll never see a sequel. The likes of Turismo and Forza have become boring. Forza Horizon not so much. Road Rash and Super Hang on 2 others. Chase HQ has never gained legendary status on any console.

I would do anything for a MotorStorm on PS5. Or just the trilogy in 4k/60. RIP Evolution.

darthv7215d ago

Evolution did good on those games... but we don't need them for a trilogy remaster. It can be done by Sony's master of remasters: Bluepoint.

Storm2315d ago (Edited 15d ago )

For sure. I don't even think it would need that talented of a studio. Upping the resolution and framerate would be all that's needed. Of course I would take the trilogy with a complete overhaul on the graphics, but upping the rez and framerate (and some great AA) would easily be enough for me.

If you already own it... There, I saved you the click on a deliberately misleading article.

DivineHand12519d ago

I bought the game yesterday on steam for $4 because Square Enix is trying to replace it with a version that has no mod support.

Prior to yesterday, I had no idea the game had so many great mods until people started making a fuss out of it.

Knightofelemia19d ago

I wish Square would port other old games to newer systems I want Xenogears.
