First Thoughts: Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour

HPP: E3 has come to a close, but the gaming press is still buzzing with the latest news. We have more information on Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a release date for The Last Guardian, a new God of War, and so much more. It’s like Christmas, but in the summer, and with more sobbing about what you want but can’t get until later down the line. There was one little thing that actually left me a little speechless, though: that strange first-person trailer for Resident Evil 7, and the demo that came with it.

I like the direction they're going with this one - it's a breath of fresh air.

The series definitely needed it. I just hope it doesn't devolve too much into walking simulator territory and provides enough compelling gameplay to move the action forward.

yeah as long as they add the flagship resident evil mechanics... mixing herbs, standard slash weapon for escaping, etc I think it'll be incredible.

Me too, it's the first RE game that's given me a genuine sense of fear since maybe RE2 (possibly 3 with Nemesis hunting your shit).
Though in saying that, it is only a demo, but if the atmosphere is representative of the final game then we're definitely in for a good time.

I am all for the naughty dog effect games have taken recently. Pulling the camera in to get a different perspective on the series as a whole. God of War looks tremendous. And taking this up close approach to Resi seems like a fit for a series that began as survival horror and turned into shooty McBoulderpunch.

just nicely gotten through the demo and all i can say is wow!!! theres definitely a great sense of dread and I'm really hoping Clancy will prove just as fab as the likes of leon and jill...after the dreadful resi 6 I'm really looking forward to this one

Review - Resident Evil 7 Biohazard (Switch 2) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "It’s been nearly ten years, but Resident Evil 7 hasn’t aged a day. Its brand new Switch 2 port not only showcases that its gameplay is still fresh and tense after all these years, but also showcases how well Nintendo’s portable can handle some of the more demanding games from the previous generation, with a handful of improvements to make it look as good as its current-gen counterparts. There’s also the fact there’s a ton of extra content for you to enjoy, from videos to entire new modes and side campaigns, so this is a worthy inclusion to the Switch 2’s currently minute library, and a great excuse for you to replay one of the most important horror games released in recent memory."

Hoping for a small Direct for these games. Especially RE9.

The village graphics is insane!

Smooth gameplay already! So excited for my Generation Pack pre-order. I already platinum RE7 on PS5, but I don't have the chance to play Village.

By the way, the RE7 and RE8 included in Generation Pack are both the Gold Editions.
