More like glossing over the XB1 after the DRM policies and Kinect limitations to the system.

How is it that MS never learned from the mistakes of the first Xbox? It was the most powerful system of its gen, but it was still overshadowed by the weaker PS2 which had a larger and diverse library.

mark_parch3637d ago

I would argue looking at the games shown at both conferences that microsofts upcoming games are more diverse

MatrixxGT3637d ago

😱😱😱 can't say stuff like that here..what's wrong with you. Better get back on Sonys Tit before mommy finds out.

nix3637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

what's surprising is that you have to pay for Xbox Gold on XB1 but not for Windows. i mean how do you even compute that logic?

next time scorpio doesn't sell they'll come out with spider in 6 months - "tech is moving fast why should console have one year lifetime?" #MSlogic

Servbot413637d ago

First-party, arguably, but third-party? No way.

jessionpc3637d ago

Awesome, and they almost all suck.

Gears 4 was embarrassing, "M-MUM IM GONNA-!!!!. Dead Rising 4 was more of the same 12 year old JI Joe fantasy troll crap. I couldn't stop cringing with Scalebound's protagonist every time he talked, Recore felt about as duechy as Ratchet and Clank remake IS. Halo Wars 2.... Lol, because 1 was so good, keep milkin Microsoft, keep milkin. TBH, the only two games that looked good were Forza Horizon 3, and State of Decay 2... And their both available for PC, "like the rest of selloutSoft".

And that's the general census. You or me? Or all the people on N4G?... Don't matter. The millions do, and the number don't lie, RIP XBOX.

"Guys... Just GET a ps4!... Do YOURSELF the favor, don't be like some guys from my town who hurt themselves to prove a point they can't win!... Just get it. And become happy."

The original Xbox was new to the market. Considering that Sony had a whole generation over Microsoft and had built up many studios before Xbox entered into the market, Microsoft did very well.

Eldyraen3637d ago

The One is still selling better than other Xboxes as far as I know, this is just a new option for its fanbase that want 4K, better VR (mostly an assumption based on what companies have implied as no one has seen VR with new hardware), and "maybe" better looking/running versions of games.

4K requires a lot of juice and 6 teraflops (going by that number alone--I forgot to compare the other) is similar to a 980ti or 390x (a bit better actually unless the 6 is just a rounded number they use) which can do 4K on some games but not Ultra on many at 4K and 60fps for example. Dedicated hardware and further tweaks to a similar chipset though can get more out of it as teraflops is just one spec related to how good a card can be.

I'd be more excited if Developers can choose between 4K or a further Boosted 1080 version as I don't really want to have to buy extra tech to utilize it fully. So, my PC will work for now and Play Anywhere lets me keep my One and get two versions for price of one.

MatrixxGT3637d ago

For year all I heard from PC gamers was that consoles held back their games. Now MS is coming out swinging to support PC just as much as consoles and some still have a problem with that.

I have no interest in building a PC whatsoever and I'm glad MS is combining the two platforms. That just means more potential game sales and more people to play with online. And if you already have a PC but no Xbox then you are getting a bunch of Xbox games without buying the console. How can you complain about that. I'm not a fanboy of any company but MS has made leaps and bounds to recover from the horrible X1 reveal. We'll see how far it goes as time goes by.

Eldyraen3637d ago

For one I never said I was disappointed or upset. I love the possibilities as the Play Anywhere initiative is one I've mentioned elsewhere before it had a name or even Xbox announced it as possible. It has been one of the biggest things I've been watching for ever since however.

Scorpio and Neo both interest me as I do love my PC but I also love consoles as they are still zero maintence in terms of upgrading hardware, patches, etc as it does everything you really need. I just want it to have an added option of an existing resolution Game boost so it can benefit even more people.

VR is iffy for me in part as I wear glasses and have zero interest in contacts and headsets and glasses (for 3D) don't leave room to be glass wearer friendly. 4K could interest me later as I sort of want a new tv anyways but benefiting more people would be a nice option.

I never understood hate around the system, but I would love more choice that a Scorpio could allow. For example on PC I can play 4K or play at lower res and run games at a higher framerate and Graphics Setting. Who wouldn't want a simple "4K or 1080 Boost" Toggle in options as it's entirely possible a Developer could do this with new hardware .

Errorist763637d ago

The One has slowed down considerably and I don't see that changing with them killing their own momentum by announcing a new console 18 months in advance.

Death3637d ago

The original Xbox launched against a competitor that not only released their new console a year earlier, but had also just come off a record breaking generation that went on to sell 100+ million consoles. Sony owned their first generation with a staggering marketshare, but also went on to own 75% of the generation the Xbox launched in. Do you think having the more powerful hardware was the mistake Xbox should have learned from or do you think it was coming late to the party? The library Sony has with their Playstation consoles is due to their much larger worldwide appeal and fact they tend to have the largest userbase. I think it's absurd to believe Microsoft can "win" in sales when they have a smaller market to sell in. Xbox will not be the brand in India, China, Japan, South America or most of Europe. What Xbox will do is appeal to Xbox gamers. The good news is that in these countries and regions where the Xbox console lags behind Playstation, PC gamers there will be able to enjoy Xbox games for a much smaller investment.

Godmars2903637d ago

You know, not reading anything which doesn't agree that MS have repeatedly made mistakes that cost them marketshare. How putting out another system that's more powerful is going to help them.

343_Guilty_Spark3637d ago

Xbox came out two years after PS2 and it was Microsoft's first console. Sony had already had over 6 years of experience when Microsoft had launch and was also the previous gens undisputed king.

Godmars2903637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

In the time MS came into gaming they have never put consumers first. Have repeatedly made the mistake of applying short term solutions to long term goals. From the kit that allowed Xbox owners to play DVD movies because their console could not legally be modded, to getting Netflix first only to hamper it by tying it to XBL, to advertising and implementing Kinect before getting it to work - this is as much as I'll mention their failures with HD optical formats - MS have only repeated mistakes. Though in this instance they're likely compounding them.

Where Sony succeeded with two console gens because of library diversity, that initial six years of experience, they survived the third for the same reason as MS not only learned nothing but squandered their opportunity. Didn't build up first party support, relied on third, and overall pushed an online agenda which Kinect became an integral part of before the tech was ever proven. By many counts it was even shortchanged.

Now, as it becomes obvious that it takes 2-3 years to gain a competent understanding of hardware to make a game, MS is somehow doing themselves as well as consumers a favor by announcing a new system a year ahead of release? Are again going to put themselves ahead of Sony in terms of 4k and especially VR when Sony will have had over a practical year heads start? That such a difference is going to make a difference WHEN IT HASN'T BEFORE?

No, don't answer that. You are literally arguing similar if not exact points which, as the world market as judge, you have lost multi times before.

MS is and continues to be their own worst enemy.

Yetter3637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

It had a larger and more diverse game library because it had a 50-60 million lead which is fair considering the PS2 released 1.5 years before the Xbox.

Godmars2903637d ago

And what does, will, MS have that will make any real difference? It wont be a library. The current lead difference isn't going to help them.

Can certainly say more access between crossplay and Win 10 being shoved down people's throats, but then system power, cost, and willingness to invest comes up again as far as the general consumer is concerned.

freshslicepizza3636d ago

Are we still talking about the early drm policies that never actually took place? Some of you guys need to seriously move on. What is the purpose to be a heckler from the back row year after year?

Godmars2903636d ago (Edited 3636d ago )

Some of "us guys" need to move on when its "You guys" cheering on more power right along with MS while ignoring lack of game support? That to make a game nowadays it takes 2-3 years, that under such an understanding the XB1 and PS4 as hardware are just now coming into their own, that 4k is only going to complicate things further, yet MS is trying to jump to next gen while saying they aren't.

What's the purpose of trying to defend an argument when you can't come up with any effective counterpoints? Can only heckle while failing to recognize new - technically - issues.

freshslicepizza3636d ago

Godmars you bring too much baggage to the forums to even bother. When all you do is critique then maybe you are better off ignoring what they are doing.

Microsoft is pushing windows platforms and if you don't like their direction you have alternative options.

I like the fact that there is an option for the casual and hardcore gamer.

Damn... Now I need a 4K tv... I hate you MS

GameBoyColor3637d ago

nah man, if im right, they will be going for 30 fps in 4k and it will most likely be upscaled. You should take the 1080p60fps instead and keep the tv you already have.

2cents3637d ago

I think you are right based off of what current GFX can do.

I think I'll probably get the Oculus for 4K VR on the Scorpio and stick to 1080p on my tv and wait and see what happens. :)

Eldyraen3637d ago

Depending on the game and how the new chips are designed, 4K games with graphical settings of today (which are not Ultra in most cases) should be possible anywhere between 30-60fps. Without more specs it's hard to tell.

Some might vary depending on singleplayer/multiplayer again though. Even if they upscale from like 1440p it's a substantial difference especially in terms of clearer images. Foliage especially sees a big difference without having to rely on AA. It makes it so much smoother looking without as much distractions.

UnHoly_One3637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

I totally agree that there is still no reason to go for a 4k TV, unless you sit basically right on top of it.

If those graphs that show what resolution benefit you get from your viewing distance are accurate, you'd need a gigantic TV to tell the difference from a normal viewing range.

http://www.extremetech.com/...

Going by that chart, I'd need to increase my TV from the current 65" to something absolutely unrealistic like 95" in order to get any benefit from 4k. lol

I'm not even sure if you could get a 95" inch 4k TV, but I know for damn sure I'm not going to be putting up that kind of money any time soon.

dms52233637d ago

Agreed, I like this plan. It will suck for non Scorpio owners if there are Scorpio exclusive games tho.

Saving up to buy a 4K tv next year myself! They've really come down in price so next year should be even cheaper.

2cents3637d ago

about the exclusivity, I don't think MS will do that, if they did they would loose all faith from early adopters of X1 and the community as a whole.

I hope they mean it when they say, same gen just better hardware.
Either way, I am P.U.M.P.E.D!!!

xfiles20993637d ago

There will be exclusive Scorpio games All VR games can not run on the Xbone or Slim so Xbone users are left out in the cold when it comes to VR games. Sony will still dominate even with the Scorpio Xbox has no games Look at God of War then Gears God of War is on another level.

dms52233636d ago

@xfiles

Yeah but gears has not been made from the ground up for Scorpio. I have a feeling halo 6 will be the "launch" game with Scorpio and that's where we will see it shine.

3637d ago
Saranya3637d ago

I do think that current Xbox One it's Mattrick but, Xbox Scorpio it's Spencer.

And
“For us, our box is doing well. It performs, it’s reliable, the servers are doing well. If we’re going to go forward with anything, like I said, I want it to be a really substantial change for people–an upgrade.”

Can you point out the lie?

Take-Two CEO Once Again Side Steps Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Point

Strauss Zelnick says price of GTA 6 is being carefully considered and that Rockstar is focused on "making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth."

Kuma31d ago

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay30d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran830d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger30d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

Storm2330d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay32d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn232d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn232d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown32d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay32d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay32d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac32d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger32d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300032d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde32d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde32d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
