Rockstar Games is one of those developers that has a way of commanding the attention of everyone in the gaming industry, particularly when they are ready to make an announcement. Rockstar doesn't do E3. What would change now.

RuleNumber53640d ago

They did two years ago to announce GTA V on PS4 and Xbox One, so it's a maybe.

Randostar3640d ago

They always have someone else do it. Some MS guy had the GTAIV tattoo on his arm to reveal the DLC first for Xbox. And andrew house ended the conference two years ago with the GTAV ps4 trailer.

RuleNumber53640d ago

@Randostar True story, you are right about that one. They're always so stealthy.

Nitrowolf23640d ago (Edited 3640d ago )

Don't they always do E3? I mean, they don't have a showing every year, but when they have a game to announce they always do e3. GTA5 and 4 were both at E3. And Max payne.

They just don't have a game every year to announce/release

RosweeSon3640d ago

Sony and Microsoft don't announce new games from Rockstar tho... Pretty certain GTA's have been announced via Sony's and Microsoft's conferences before if one have them has paid big to get exclusive deals dlc sure one of them would want to mention it.

Erik73573640d ago

IT could happen but like you i'm doubting it , red dead redemption alone is big enough to have its own event so when they announce I think they will want all the attention on that game not just on their game and other games being shown.

Hogarth3640d ago (Edited 3640d ago )

Take Two already announced their presence at E3, and as they are the parent company of Rockstar, I expect some kind of announcement from them re: Rockstar games

Damn I'm excited for RDR 2 but I hope it gets revealed at E3, can't wait much longer than that!

Captain_Mushroom3640d ago

If it's "definitely" coming soon, it's most likely a current-gen. remaster of RDR. Super hyped for it, especially if they'll also release it on PC.

mafiahajeri3640d ago

I really really hope I'm wrong but I don't think they'll be revealing it this e3, unless they have some kind of deal with Sony be it DLC or advertising rights, as some kind of redemption (pun intended) for Agent.

Fin_The_Human3640d ago (Edited 3640d ago )

Why do people still believe that R* owes Sony money.

I find it hard to believe that Sony would give R* millions of dollars over 5 years ago and say hey don't worry about paying us back and take your sweet time since we so badly want a game from you guys that we are willing to wait for ever if we have to, so please go ahead and work on other games and put Agent on the back burner.

R* is not a broke company like Capcom and could have paid Sony back ages ago...maybe they still do owe Sony but I just don't see the business logic in Sony being ok with R* releasing other games without getting lawyers involved.

I just don't see R* giving Sony or MS exclusive or time exclusive DLC since Anything GTA or RDR related sells tons on both consoles regardless.

jb2273640d ago (Edited 3640d ago )

Well that'd be all up to Sony. If Rockstar is contractually obligated to deliver an exclusive, that would make Sony a lot more money than just being made whole on an outstanding debt. It could create a tremendous money making IP, so Sony may prefer that over monetary compensation. Sony allowed The Last Guardian nearly a ten year dev cycle, so that's pretty clear proof that Sony is nothing if not patient with their partners. They are no stranger to the long game.

Either way, we aren't talking about making GTA or RDR exclusive, those are definitely huge franchises that probably won't see exclusive or timed exclusive status anytime soon, but GTA was already huge when MS got exclusive dlc last gen so that method isn't out of the realm of possibility. Rockstar has plenty of teams that could work on a new IP though. Could even end up like a Titanfall situation where Sony has full exclusivity on the first game & any potential sequels could go multiplat.

Is Agent likely at this point? Maybe not, but it surely isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility if it already existed in some form in the past as something in the works.

How....How has this not happened already? How has this game not been made yet?? How??

You think Rockstar views Red Dead 2 as a failure because it didn't sell 150m copies?

jznrpg204d ago

3 billion or so in revenue not including online stuff I’m sure they don’t

SethNW204d ago

I am pretty sure they don't. It was profitable and made them a lot of money. Not GTA5 money but far from failure. Maybe it is lower priority franchise, due to being smaller, but that is about the lowest they would put it as. Only thing they do consider failure is RDR2 Online, unlike GTA5 Online, that RDR2 Online flopped. Hence why it got less support. And when it come to profits, sales for both combined don't come close to GTA Online microtansactions. Hence why everything very quickly got canceled and GTA Online was top priority, so no GTA6 for a long time, no DLC for GTA5, despite there being 5 DLCs planned, at least I think it was 5, give or take one. But as I see it, they needed to rejuvenate interest and all, hence why GTA6 eventually is getting made. But what they are really looking forward to is refresh of Online.

ZeekQuattro204d ago

Only in terms of the online aspect of the game. They didn't support it as much as they did GTA V Online. I remember people being pissed about that.

jznrpg204d ago

I own a few GTAs but never played them. I love Red Dead though

Yui_Suzumiya198d ago (Edited 198d ago )

Boring and overrated. Red Dead Redemption is pretty good though. The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is my personal GOAT. We need more stuff like that from TooKyo.

victorMaje204d ago

I must be one of the few who are fine with the GTA6 delay. People treat that game like it’s the 2nd coming lol.

FIELDMARSHALL_P203d ago

My daughter asked me how I felt about I shrugged and said I don't care gives me time to finish up games I already have. It's all good let them make the best game they can.

RedDevils204d ago

Wish they make another Manhunt or Bully.

gold_drake204d ago

damn, thats a ridiculous number

Dan Houser: RDR2 was "behind schedule" and "over budget so much I didn’t want to think about it"

The world they built is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, the game was mostly boring to me. I definitely had fun in some parts, but it didn't do it for me as a whole like the first one did. I loved RDR so much.

The budgets and time it takes to make games these days is out of control. Such a big risk. If a game isn't a huge hit, it is often it for a studio. Scary. I really miss the PS2 and PS3 days where studeios could make 4 games in a generation and take risks in making something new. And so many were using their own engines. Those were the days.

neutralgamer1992208d ago

Agreed. I love RDR but couldn't get into RDR2. The animations take forever and game slows you down on purpose. It won't let you have fun because R* want us to play the game they want to. I know millions love RDR2 and I even bought and own it. But just wasn't for me.

It's like comparing GTA4 to saints row 2. One game was about fun while the other was about realism and that's coming from someone who beat GTA4 many times. I much rather a game be fun to play than chase realism

YodaCracker208d ago

GTA IV’s realism is what made it so much more fun for me. I loved experimenting with the physics.

Storm23207d ago

I bought RDR2 also. Put 100+ hours into it and beat it our of respect for Rockstar and all the people saying it was the greatest game ever. RDR blew my mind but might also have been the best time in gaming for me personally. l loved that PS3 gen so much.

I am excited to see what GTA6 is like.
