With PS4 NEO Skipping E3 2016 When Will It Be Revealed?

Rumors of a more powerful PlayStation 4 have been making the rounds on the internet since GDC back in March and many have been wondering when we would hear something official. The PS4 NEO or PS4K as some call it was assumed to be making an appearance at E3 2016 this year where many figured we would get official details. That all changed this past week when President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House confirmed that an “upgraded” PS4 is in the works.

NEO will most likely be unveiled at a Playstation Exclusive event like they have been holding the last couple of years.

Aenea3639d ago

That would be too late for a release this year though...

And before you say that it will still be before the holidays, well it won't, PS Experience is usually in the first few days of December, so yes, it could then be available before Christmas, but not before all the holidays around the world. Santa Claus is based Saint Nicholas whose birthday actually was December 6, in some countries in Europe it is celebrated on December 5/6 and kids get presents then, so yes, it would be too late for that particular holiday...

hulk_bash19873639d ago

It doesnt necessarily have to be at PS Experiece. I just said they will most likely hold an event exclusively to unveil the NEO. But im not discounting the fact that they could do it at any of the other upcoming game shows besides E3 either.

THC CELL3639d ago

They will do the way Ps4 was announced

MasterCornholio3639d ago

About the NEO.

Rumors have it that they will announce it at PGW.

If true then why did Andrew talk about it before the ?

I find that a little strange and I'm not sure what the strategy is behind that.

parentoftheyear3639d ago

I would guess he said something so people wouldnt be left disapointed it wasnt shown. I have felt that way about certain conferences. Wait the whole time for an announcment that does come. Its crushing.

juggulator3639d ago

Its called creating a "buzz". Since E3 is literally around the corner House did a house move and essentially confirmed the existence of an upgraded PS4.And since I never seen or heard Andrew House even crack a lame joke that means it's 100% confirmed. Also while the actual hardware unit might not be shown, Sony could pull off an epic ending by showing some exclusive game for the upgraded PS4(I refuse to call it NEO) with VR functionality. Honestly this is the first time I might feel Sony is taking a huge risk. Not every dev can do what Naughty Dog can but after playing Uncharted 4 I can definitely stick with the OG PS4 for quite a while, plus if I'm going to spend $400+ only anything further related to gaming it'll be the GTX1070 and not a second thought on that.

rainslacker3639d ago

Possibly because MS will talk about Scorpio, and confirming Neo helps stall some of that press. People can continue to speculate on Neo specs. just marketing maneuvering really.

Then there's the possibility they actually do have a plan to show it at E3, and his statement it's not going to be there is just to put MS off, and hope they fumble somewhere, and Sony has plans to release it much sooner than most expect....or at least parts of all that are true.

If it's to help VR going forward, as some speculate, it would actually make more sense to release it almost immediately, and start phasing out the current PS4 from the market. If Neo is for this year, releasing it at the same time as PSVR is kind of splitting their focus a bit, and making the cost of entry that much more annoying for those who want the best experience.

In other words, there is some strategy going on over at Sony, and they've already a couple times this gen(and before it started) have led us to believe they weren't ready to do something, and then did something which only put the competition on the reactionary side of things.

opinionated3639d ago

It will be at e3 after the Scorpio is shown.

RosweeSon3639d ago

No they doing the slim first get every penny they can then do the Scorpio. Con.

opinionated3639d ago

Trust me, I'm a limo driver.

RosweeSon3639d ago

Any time they want. Internet/TV sure we'd hear about it. Sometime after next month I feel end of July/August.

They for sure chose the worst way to deal with it

-Foxtrot31d ago

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose32d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE32d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername31d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy32d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde31d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8631d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8631d ago (Edited 31d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.

The only ND game that was so disappointing to me I couldn't finish it.

pwnmaster300032d ago

Honestly as much as I loved the game, they could have just not killed him off.
I get it creator vision and all but killing a character that made you millions is just wrong imo. At least have him go down fighting.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle32d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
