How Can Microsoft Win E3 2016?

Gamespot:
Microsoft delivered a solid round of announcements last year, balancing its showing with a roster of new and pre-existing games alongside exciting new hardware features. But if Microsoft hopes to create hype surrounding Xbox One and its fans, it needs to showcase something even grander than years prior. So what does the company need to reveal this time to top last year's press conference? Here's what our editors think Microsoft needs to do to win the hearts of gamers at E3 2016.

They will do good but I'm rooting for Sony to win.

Fin_The_Human3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

What will Sony or MS win excalty?

Fin_The_Human3623d ago

Ah makes sense now.

Hopefully it's not Oat Meal Raisin.

Godmars2903623d ago

What's wrong with oatmeal raisin?!

Sir!

I request that you step outside!

thorstein3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

It's a gamer cookie. The loser has to eat a journalism cookie.

Like the gamer cookie, the journalism cookie looks and smells delicious, but one bite and the loser tastes the bitterness.

(meaning: game journalists are bitter, not the loser.)

Sony will win with games realising in 2018+ they show this week

GTgamer3623d ago

Atleast they ain't gonna win the most cancelled games award

freshslicepizza3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

they won the most cancelled games in previous years but give them a chance, they may end up taking that crown back.

wonder how many games shown this year will mae it out before e3 2018 (from all the conferences)?

Movefasta19933623d ago

i just want them to entertain me with great games i don;t know why you want either 1 to win.I want them all, every conference to show great games.

opinionated3623d ago

Games, new hardware, free stuff and crackdown beta. They just have to be better than the others games, hardware, free stuff and betas.

GamePeace3623d ago (Edited 3623d ago )

Games? Which games? Not everyone likes shooters. Free stuff? Everyone has free stuff at some point. Crackdown beta? Seriously? Hardware? Good hardware is nothing without a diverse range of good software. I don't want to exaggerate, but for me they have to summon Jesus on stage in order to win me over. I'm far more excited about Sony's press conference, even Third Party games interest me more, even Nintendo, although they don't seem to offer the biggest show this year in the hardware and software department.

Nonetheless, I'm always open for surprises.

opinionated3623d ago

Well they already hinted to dead rising (with frank west) and state of decay 2. Two of the best zombie franchises around IMO, one is serious statistical and the other is satirical silliness. The crackdown demos have looked pretty amazing. I can't take your "seriously?" comment seriously. Especially when you're more hyped for Nintendo when they already said they aren't showing anything but Zelda. For me personally, I think Microsoft will put on a good show just by the hints they've already shown. Enough to "win" my vote? We'll see.. To each his own 😉. I'm excited for all of the conferences, I think Bethesda won last year.

PutridPlop3622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

Half of your post is exaggeration. The Xbox One doesn't only have shooters and it's line up of games is just as diverse as the PS4's. The Xbox One has games in every genre the PS4 has. Personally, I think the word "diversity" is abused amongst certain people especially on this site.

Jaw1love3622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

Ha seriously
Xbox has Ori, Halo, Forza, Tomb Raider, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Killer Instinct

And Scalebound, Gears of War, Sea of Thieves, Recore and Crackdown coming in.

Only two of those are shooters. But go ahead and tell about the great, diverse lineup of games on PS4. Can't wait to maybe play Shenmue in 2018

@therightside ha yep he just did. dude came in trash talking but couldn't take it when people called him out. classic

PutridPlop3622d ago

@ Jaw1love

Be aware GamePeace will pm you with insults like he did with me.

Lennoxb633622d ago

"I'm far more excited about Sony's press conference"

Well you can be more excited about Sony's press conference in Sony's articles.

Software_Lover3623d ago

.......... You can't win it. Just show what you have and move on. Some blogs will focus on the negatives, some blogs will focus on the positives. You could show the most powerful console ever, drop the Xbox one to $99, say all future games will be $29.99, announce free Xbox live....................... and someone will still be pissed and say they will never buy your console(s).

Just keep it moving.

Lennoxb633622d ago

This is true. People are going to hate MS regardless of how good or bad their conference is. So it doesn't really matter.

sammarshall1023623d ago

Show their lineup Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Recore, Crackdown 3, Scalebound, Dead Rising 4, Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, Cuphead, Below, and 3 new IP's

DigitalRaptor3622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

So show 80% already announced content, and you win?

What if the competition does that same, but announces more new stuff (which is reasonable expectation)?

Godmars2903623d ago

What they'll likely do: Show off new IPs with no release dates, half of which then get canceled years later.

MachuchalBrotha3163623d ago

Or they can do like their competition and show games that will release 10yrs from now. Maybe they will show Agent...😂😂

Godmars2903622d ago

True.

At the same time where Sony shows something seemingly made a big deal of, say Last Guardian, they'll keep at past a point the community at large expected they dropped it. Not say, like Fable Legends or Phantom Dust, show it several times only to dump the game - and studio - arbitrarily.

All that said I'm still salty at Sony for Eight Days to Vegas and final result of White Knight Chronicles - that POS PSO wannabe...

sammarshall1023622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

2 games got canceled from Microsoft
1 game got canceled from Sony that we know of

That's not a huge difference

To be honest I'd rather have a game be canceled than to take 8 years like TLG

DigitalRaptor3622d ago (Edited 3622d ago )

2 games .....

Right.... Yeah let's ignore that only 3 months ago, Microsoft shut down and/or cancelled 8 (that's right EIGHT!) first-party studios/projects/initiatives in one foul swoop: https://twitter.com/vg_dave...

You would rather a classic in the making be cancelled than eventually get it and it potentially be everything you expect from the developer based on what the content has portrayed since it was announced? Absolute madness, but expected from a loyalist opportunist. TLG not being cancelled after 8 years shows the faith Sony has in its developers and their unique projects in ways that no other console manufacturer can attest to.

Godmars2903622d ago

@DigitalRaptor:
More like determination. Given that the lead dev left the company.

marquisray3622d ago

Sony has announced a remake of knack and knack 2, they just won the show hands down, thats what they did last year with final fantasy and everyone said they won lol

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio14d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay16d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn216d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn216d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown16d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay16d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay16d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac15d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger16d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300016d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde16d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde16d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
