He says that mobile devices will catch up to the power levels of consoles, sure, that might be true, but when that happens hardware that can be put into consoles will again be more powerful than those mobile devices so it will be still be more effective to have a dedicated console.

Maybe someday in the future when the only limiting factor for games is the creation of them, that even the smallest device is capable of doing more than any game developer could use, perhaps then we will see the end of dedicated consoles, but by that time we will see the end of PCs as well. Please note people: this is not gonna happen in the next few decades!

The premise of the article is flawed. With the advent of affordable smartphones the "gaming" market is significantly larger than it has been in previous generations, introducing gaming to many people who had never before picked up a controller, and overlapping with traditional gamers who had also purchased consoles or a PC. Therefore it's possible for the market share of consoles to be decreasing while they still sell more than they ever have before, as is currently the case. It isn't a zero sum equation.

Well I think he's somewhat right in respects to how gaming will happen in the future. Right now cloud streaming a game is in its infancy, but we could see it eventually replace traditional consoles. If Microsoft and Sony didn't have to spend money on making a console but instead could just stream it to any device you wanted to play on, why would you build a traditional console? Heck even a PC for gaming wouldn't be a must in a environment like that. Not saying that's going to happen tomorrow, but eventually it will.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
