Why the ‘Wow’ Factor is Hurting VR

Aiming for 'wow' may bring short term success, but will damage VR in the long run.

Opinions, opinions, opinions. I'm so sick of reading about these so called Journalist's opinions. I just want to read about news and facts. There are just too many gaming websites these days. I didn't read this persons 'opinion' but I think I've had just about enough of pointless opinions. Rant over. VR wow factor is wow wow on topic.

I agree. There has been such slow news on N4G for a very long time, 90% of articles are opinions lately.

"Why VR will fail"
200 articles on "Why Neo/Scorpio is a bad idea"
"Why you should pick up an Xbox One"

Such rubbish. Hopefully with E3 around the corner there'll be better content soon.

but do realize that the website is called, "vrfocus", so I feel like I would respect someone's opinion more if they go through the trouble of registering a domain name and build a website around said tech, then say, other people.

It was actually a good read , if you actually read it. Vrfocus is an excellent site for VR news and opinions. All he/she was basically saying is for the 2nd wave of vr games the developers should try to focus on new experiences opposed to just relying on wow factor type games. I have a Samsung gear vr and I agree with this statement. Vr is awesome but I want fun long lasting new experiences. Not just shovelware, Wii type games. Also n4g always gets kinda slow before e3. It's like the calm before the storm lol

I feel the same as the author. Most of what is coming out doesn't have much substance to it and feels like a demo more than a game. Kind of how Wii games felt at the beginning. VR software will need to mature, but all this shovelware at the beginning will actually hurt VR's chances of successs for the long term.

VR will be off to a slow start because they will make it full motion where you have to stand up and move your body.

They will eventually realise that players still want to sit down, with a control pad in their hands to move their character, but use the VR headset to look around.

Then it will be a big success.

Shame that VR progression will take a good few years for devs to realise this though.
