Sources: No Man's Sky Delayed (Rumor)

The ambitious space game No Man’s Sky has been delayed, two sources tell Kotaku. We don’t know exactly what the new release date is—and it may not be finalized yet—but we’re hearing it’s been bumped until at least July or August.

Nitrowolf23636d ago (Edited 3636d ago )

but we were so close to the release!!
Was really hoping to grab this next month, well heres hoping that the july or august date stick. I guess if it's not ready it's not ready then

BiggCMan3636d ago

Just a rumor at this point in time. But Kotaku is really good at breaking things so I believe it's more likely to be true than not true. We will see soon enough. If true, definitely upsetting. It's one of my most anticipated games ever, and would have been perfect right after the excitement of E3. But delays are only natural in gaming, so it's not the end of the world.

I wouldn't believe it because it's coming from Kotaku, but simply because it's making sense. The more they playtest it, the more issues they're going to find with this kind of game. We'll certainly see it this year but June seems kind of early to me.

poppinslops3635d ago

I'm guessing it's because of Horizon's delay to 2017... Now No Man's Sky gets to occupy the role of Sony's 'big' holiday title for 2016.

UltraNova3635d ago

I don't like this but we haven't heart anything about NMS going gold so this might actually be true.

killer_goat3635d ago

@poppin Sony have said that horizon is still on track for this year.

poppinslops3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

Not according to Shinobi602... I'm aware that's not confirmation, but it might as well be.

Edit - You disagree? When have Sony ever given reliable release dates?
Driveclub, The Order 1886, Uncharted 4 - all big 'holiday' games that were delayed into the following year... then there's the Ratchet&Clank reboot, which was finished last year, but was held back to coincide with a movie.

Is it really so hard to believe that Horizon - a game from a dev that's only ever made Killzones, who were still hiring core devs back in January - is delayed?
The most telling sign was when they showed the same demo twice... it's delayed and No Man's Sky (which Sean Murray confirmed has been 'ready' for a while) is being held-back to fill the void.

D-D-D-D-DOUBLE EDIT!!! (thanks N4G!)
@goat - no they haven't... those French Uncharted ads were 'discovered' about two weeks after Shinobi's announcement, but they would have been produced and packaged well before his news broke - AAA games have very curated promotional cycles and it's not as though Sony are going to announce Horizon's delay on an Uncharted ad.

freshslicepizza3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

not surprised if this gets delayed yet again. the game is highly ambitious, they have a small team, and they still want to add psvr support. meaning sony will likely try and delay the game so that it is closer to psvr being released. the huge impact of uncharted 4 also allows them more breathing room to delay it.

darthv723635d ago

delayed so they can make the PC version compatible with the XB1 perhaps.....?

Yeah, it's pretty disappointing, this is gonna be my chill game. When I'm bored I'll put it on and just go to some random planet that nobody has been to before and see what kind of weird animals I can discover while listening to some music. I don't care about the complaints I've seen ("but what do you do") I've seen that there's limitless exploration and that's all I want.

gamesR4fun3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

ya so much hype hope they get a smooth launch sooner than later so we can see if it lives up to it.

Tried subbing this but at least i got ta help approve it havn't been here since they took the bubs good stuff tho this way its less about epeens and more about saying what you want and seeing if the community agrees.

Lore3635d ago

The game is definitely "ready" if this is true then it is Sony being Sony and causing a delay for their own financial reasoning

_-EDMIX-_3635d ago

? Sony doesn't own the game, they don't own the team, they are not publishing the game.

I have no clue how you got "Sony" from this....

killer_goat3635d ago

I didn't know that you worked on nms

This is not good at all. If true, this is pretty concerning considering how long we waited to get a release date in the first place....I figured once the date was announced that was pretty much set in stone. This delay would definitely concern me, especially coming less than one month before it's scheduled release. It would be very disappointing as I was really looking forward to diving into this game in late June.

I don't know but I have this feeling that this game will not be as good as everyone expected it to be, I mean, what's the goal of the game, the missions, progression.....Just exploration?

BiggCMan3636d ago

Basically that's the same as asking what's the goal in Minecraft, you know? Just survive, explore, enjoy yourself. Use your imagination and get lost in space, that's what the game is. There's more to it of course, but too much to really explain. If you need to know, just look up videos on Youtube from IGN or others, there is so much information out there. There is ship/weapon upgrading though if that's the kind of thing you are specifically looking for. But in general, it is a game about exploring an infinite space. Everyone knows that by now, nobody is expecting some RPG or anything. I love space and astronomy, it's the most fascinating stuff in the world to me, even went to college for it. So No Man's Sky is really a game I've been dreaming about forever. I will be happy to just fly around space and finding new planets, without any real reason to but to just explore.

generic-user-name3636d ago

I feel exactly the same, all about the exploration.

Aloy-Boyfriend3636d ago

- Make your own story
- Explore the vast universe
- Discover and leave your mark for others to see
- Find the center of the Universe

All of this sound cool to me

TheSaint3635d ago

Like any open ended game, you make your own story.

Christopher3635d ago

"Just exploration."

*rolls eyes*

What's the point of CoD? Just shooting? What's the point of TellTale games? Just story?

I think it's just not a game for many a people, but claiming "just exploration" is a pretty bad way to go at it. And this is from someone who has no interest in the game at all.

IIFloodyII3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

The main goal is to get to the center of the Universe, upgrading your ship, gear and weapons along the way, by exploring planets for, trading for or just straight up stealing materials.

There's plenty of articles, forum post and dev interviews explaining it and discussing it in great detail.

Fist4achin3636d ago

I think it's better to delay than to release an unfinished buggy piece of crap.

Patricko3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

Well, if they weren't able to fix the game for that long, I think one or two months won't change so much unfortunetaly.

Rookie_Monster3636d ago

Man, was looking forward to this one in Jun. Hope it is still a summer release.

magiciandude3635d ago (Edited 3635d ago )

This would suck if true. NMS is the only indie game I wanted to play on PS4.

Have you seen Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
