Fallout 4: Far Harbor's Frame Rate Is Unacceptable on PS4

Push Square: "What a disappointment this turned out to be. Fallout 4 is easily the best performing title that Bethesda has ever released on a PlayStation platform, but its first big expansion, Far Harbor, is in a real state right now. We're just a few hours into the highly anticipated add-on, and we're honestly finding it difficult to keep playing. It's not that the content is bad – we actually quite like what we've seen so far – it's that Far Harbor has some unforgivable framerate issues on Sony's console."

Yeah the frame rate gets really bad and it has nothing to do with being in combat or anything just walking around

It seems worse in certain areas than others yet despite it I really did love this expansion

My big complaints really is just the frame rate and that stupid stupid hacking puzzle simulator

Grilla3653d ago (Edited 3652d ago )

I think it"s the friggin fog. Hopefully it'll get patched soon.

nX3653d ago

Most probably. That's why I never bought another Bethesda game on console after Skyrim, they just can't optimize their stuff.

It's not that great on PC either, at least not for me. The game has crashed 3 times in the space of an hour and that has not been a problem before. Too frustrating for me to bother for the time being

AuToFiRE3653d ago

Hasn't crashed for me once and its modded to hell

Majister-Ludi3652d ago

Yea sounds like something on your end game runs well on my rig and I have like 40 mods enabled.

ONESHOTV23652d ago

dont buy a hp laptop next time maybe your games won't crash

slappy5083652d ago

I dont have a laptop I have an I5 with Gtx 970 sli. As I've said before I've had very few problems with Fallout 4 until this update with the DLC released.

AuToFiRE3651d ago

PM me, I'll help you out and diagnose the problem. It shouldn't be crashing

slappy5083651d ago

Thanks for offering to help. Will send you a message when I get home as I need to be certain what version my nvidia drivers are

I've been playing this on my xbox and I had to quit. The frame rate is terrible. Hopefully a patch will be released very soon. Not to mention the other bugs

Fallout 4 old engine is unacceptable IMO

TwoForce3653d ago

Yup, they need to upgrade the engine.

Imalwaysright3653d ago

They already did that. They need a new engine entirely.

Top 10 DLCs of All Time

Examples of DLCs that are NOT cynical cash-grabs are few and far between. These rare gems can significantly expand upon and improve the base game. GameLuster's Nirav Gandhi highlights the top ten DLCs of all time. Publishers take note - these are DLCs done right.

9) Assassin's Creed IV: Freedom Cry
8) Destiny: The Taken King
7) Fallout 4: Far Harbor
6) Fallout New Vegas: Lonesome Road
5) The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard

Where’s Big surf island from Burnout Paradise? And all the extras.
GTA4’s dlc was one of the best ever
Undead nightmare was brilliant My 3 favourites off top of my head great value and great content

toxic-inferno2186d ago

Big Surf Island hadn't even crossed my mind!

I know there are plenty of good examples of how to do good DLC (and that Burnout Paradise isn't the most popular in the series amongst fans), but I remember being blown away by the way that Criterion supported Burnout Paradise. The game grew so much since its original release.

RosweeSon2186d ago

Yeah majority for free as well the island would have been free from what I heard but EA wanted to charge luckily wasn’t too expensive and got time money’s worth. Really enjoyed that game and all the content. A Delorean is always gonna be a winner for me 😂✌🏻

RosweeSon2186d ago

Prey Dlc is currently £6.49 on PSN 59% off think I’ll grab that now haha.

ifrit_caress2186d ago

Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 DLC was great, Horizon: Zero Dawn's Frozen Wilds DLC was good.

RosweeSon2186d ago

I’ve not got round to the frozen wilds yet I need to soon really enjoyed the base game

MoonConquistador2186d ago

An excellent addition to the game, well worth it.

Tacoboto2186d ago

Not even an honorable mention for Frozen Wilds, shame. Damn that expansion felt and even looked better (artistically - those hot springs!) than the base game.

toxic-inferno2186d ago

Yes, the Old Hunters was fantastic - incredible how much they managed to expand the lore of the game, while creating a short, yet incredibly rich, genuine Bloodborne experience. In a way, it's a shame it didn't receive more DLC, but to have such a successful game and follow-up DLC is so rare that we probably shouldn't complain!

pwnmaster30002186d ago

With the amount of fans bloodborne has, I am very surprise they haven’t made a sequel or more DLC. I’m hoping for a sequel for the PS5.
If Sony let’s this franchise die then it will be a major loss to me.

UltraNova2186d ago (Edited 2186d ago )

Pwnmaster,

It's not up to Sony entirely, is it? From Software is busy with Elden Ring so I wouldn't hold my breath for BB 2 anytime soon.

pwnmaster30002186d ago

@Ultra
I could of sworn Sony own the IP.
Was thinking they can push it or something

toxic-inferno2185d ago

The franchise is showing no sign of dying yet - they keep bringing out more and more merchandise for it all the time!

Exploring Possibilities Through DLC

More often that not, developers use DLC, especially story-centric DLC, as an opportunity to experiment with and expand their games. It helps to look at two recent open-world games – Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3 – that use DLC to explore new worlds and stories.

It's always great when developers opt to expand the stories and lore of their games through DLC expansions. Just wish we saw it more often, but obviously it's a time and cost intensive thing to do within reason. Great article!

MKUltra3526d ago

Totally agree. It takes a lot of resources to pull of something like this, but it's worth it when developers really put the time and effort into it.

Lazybones20203526d ago

Awesome piece! I really enjoyed the DLC offerings for Fallout 4. Far Harbor was really cool, I liked how different the atmosphere was from the main game. Nuka World has been fun but it really hasn't grabbed me in the same way. I've got a real soft spot for the DLC in Fallout 3 though! They were all so weird and extra sci-fi! I've always wanted to give The Witcher 3 a try and now that there's the ultimate edition I'll be able to snag all that awesome DLC with it!

MKUltra3526d ago

Nows the best time to jump on the Witcher train! Both DLCs are amazing, which is saying something since the main game was so awesome itself

Player3Podcast3526d ago

I really would like to see Uncharted explore some non-combat DLC.

Jared8Randall3526d ago

I feel like the weakest DLCs are the one's that don't expand on the main game, but resolve it. Witcher and Fallout are good examples of great DLC because their main game's endings are just nice and tie everything together. An example of this NOT happening that we can agree on is The Evil Within. Great game, real kick in the balls when we realized we sort of had to get the DLC to know what was up (aka like 30ish more dollars or something). A weird middle ground comes in with Bioshock Infinite, which had a strange-yet-satisfying ending. I heard the DLC for that game just like blows your mind because it resolves the story of 1 and Infinite in ways you didn't know existed. I'm waiting to finish 1 before I play through Infinite (again) and then play those DLCs. Great article by the way, really got to a good point we don't think about in that open world games offer a different sort of excitement in the DLC.
