I quit reading the review once I read the PROS and CONS ( or should I say contradictions ) but then went back and read it for the laughs then noticed the person who submitted the article, wrote the article and I'm guessing got the game for free?

It's one thing too have an opinion but when reviewers are low balling games because they end up not being what they expected or not like them because of personal preference then what's the point of reviewing the game if they can't put all their issues aside?

If you were getting this for just SP, its worth every penny. If you were getting this for the snapmap, this is also worth every penny, by itself. If you were getting this for the MP, I would suggest battlefield or (probably) UC4, instead.

EDIT: I cannot stress enough how much the snapmap feature adds to the value of this package.

This reviewer seems very invested in the more military or cover-based shooters of last-gen, and I see where that would make someone kinda hate Doom. The scopes and iron sights are "gone." Cover is "gone." It's like stuff has been "removed" from a shooter at first, but... well, I've never liked any of those things.

I've avoided shooters since the military ones came along, but loved Quake and UT back in the day, so I'm having an amazing time with it. The lack of tutorials is a plus for me, the arena-exploration-arena design lets you dive into the mechanics, and while the arena format might be simplistic, the variation in enemies and how it all comes together makes combat a joy every single time. I haven't even selected "multiplayer" yet.

For me, it's an 8/10 with what Angry Joe would call a "Bada** Seal of Approval," and a game I'll return to years later just to get back into the single-player. Yeah, the multiplayer seems pretty boring, and the loading times are all a bit much, but it's also a really unique thing. If this type of shooter's not your thing, like for this guy, it REALLY won't be your thing. But if Devil Daggers or the classic shooters of the 90s are your thing, you will absolutely love this game.

And hey, if you want great multiplayer along these lines of controls, Overwatch is just around the corner :)

Claims confusing controls as a con, then praises that they can be changed. So why were they bad again, given the option to change it back to your generic-ass shooter?
Lack of story? Have you ever played Doom? What they do have in here for story tells it exactly how it should have been, is supposed to be taken tongue-in-cheek and make you go "Yup, Doom" because who gives two shits about the story? The whole "Demonic Invasion In Progress" right from the start should have been an indicator that this game does not take itself seriously.
A lack of tutorial messages? There are tutorials EVERY 5 FEET in the first few missions and a huge codex of information to mull over that detail everything you can do in this game as it becomes available to you.

What a joke...

Score has recently been changed to 7.5 due to that fact that I feel I was being a tad harsh and diluting the importance of gameplay by focusing on a lack of story, I have come to realise that Doom is not about narrative and as such, should not be judged because of a lack 'of' narrative. The review read as quite an unbalanced review and I feel I did not calculate all of the factors before making my final decision, my apologies to all who may have been offended and I hope this doesn't change the way you view my past and future content from myself.

We're all humans after all.

This game is for oldschool FPS gamers not for posers, casuals and hipters like that guy on the review. f$#k the media!!!
