Doom’s campaign mode is without doubt one of the highlights of the FPS genre in recent times. It’s so unremittingly brutal. Its high level of violence blows your brains out and leaves you screaming for more.

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.
All we need is more single player focused FPSs. Why do people make the problem seem so complex? Metro and Wolfenstein New Order sold great so there you go. We just need more. Not every FPS has to be online focused. That's what some publishers and consumers want you to think. Before online gaming took over FPSs, You could play the single player and have a ton of fun.
Doom,Duke Nuke,Perfect Dark,Goldeneye 007,Turok,Old wolfenstein games,Red Faction,Serious Sam, Time Splitters,Half Life,Resistance,Bioshock,etc. And that's just FPS not even including TPS in which a lot can be named too.
Hell yes we do. Fortunately we have Shadow Warrior 2, Get Even, new BioShock and whatever People Can Fly is cooking up :3
