Street Fighter 5 problems led to wholesale development changes at Capcom

Issues with the launch of Street Fighter 5 and the associated missed sales target for the title have led to wholesale changes to development at Capcom, chairman and CEO Kenzo Tsujimoto has revealed.

"It's best to spend a little more time in developing and running a high-quality title that will perform well globally," said Tsujimoto in his year-end summary.

ofcourse, SF 5 except the lack of content, net problems etcetc was lacking the most basic Artistic Quality..SF5 was like a badly ported SF4 to new-gen hardware , no change in art, poor visuals (for AAA title), quickly and sloppy made only to get the first hyped sales ...why Capcom destroys their precious iP is out of me, the only franchise left with still some good standards is Mon Hun ,although with its many changes , especially in art -design (monsters tend to become like glowing caricatures of the old ones) walks on a tightrope..

Heavenly King3654d ago

the art style change for the better, I dont know what the hell you are talking about.

naruga3654d ago (Edited 3654d ago )

art style in both SF4 and 5 is the worst yet in the series ...also this insistence to present characters with a characteristic black frame is cheap and looks trashy...King of Fighters and Tekken 7 in comparison made a very good transition of anime chars into new engines

jimmydonegood3654d ago

SF5 was a travesty of a release. Glad it sold poorly. Sony lost money when they try to pay for exclusivity. This is great.

Gazondaily3654d ago

So much for Sony's help on this title. Look where it left us with.

TheTwelve3654d ago

Same old hatorade comment you make whenever this games comes in the news

Outside_ofthe_Box3654d ago

Yes, it's Sony's fault.

This guy Septic never fails to crack me up lmfao

Gazondaily3654d ago

So Sony gets praise for making SFV possible because they helped Capcom develop it. You lot said it wasn't money hatting... But when problems arise it's not their fault.

Lmao right... Talk about having your cake and eating it.

Outside_ofthe_Box3654d ago

Did they help develop it or help pay for development?

If it is indeed Sony's fault, I'd suggest Capcom not look to make changes in house to prevent future issues like this from happening, but instead just merely not seek help outside their own studios.

Artistic quality is one of the GOOD things about this game bruh, but sadly I can't really argue with you about the rest

blackblades3654d ago (Edited 3654d ago )

Stupidness comment I heard so far to day.

still looking forward to getting this in a more complete state later on.

So the poor people who are just doing their job probably get axed while the idiots firmly wedged at higher up positions in Capcom who are most likely the decision makers responsible probably get a pay rise. Just have to look at the interviews Ono did leading up to launch to see that someone higher up basically put words in his mouth to say.. things like saying Sagat feels too similar to Ryu is not something the adorable creator of SF would say.

Hoffmann3654d ago (Edited 3654d ago )

Ono is not much more than an entertainer anyway. The guy was a sound effect composer before they made him producer of games like Street Fighter all of a sudden. You rarely hear something like he was responsible for a certain move or game system, instead you see him doing jokes while crossdressing as Chun Li and holding that Blanka figure into the camera, the guy is a clown. He is anything but a SF creator, the work is done by the developers at Dimps..the company Capcom comissioned to create SFIV and V.

Yui_Suzumiya3654d ago

Lol @ comments about Ono (was checking to see if anyone brought this funny stuff up)

TheTwelve3654d ago

Yeah the Sagat/Ryu comments really annoyed me as well

lizard812883654d ago

That is sadly how the world works. My company is taking a dump, Office Depot. They are closing down stores (same as Staples), yet the CEO gave himself a raise (same as Staples too). He and corporate have NO IDEA HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS. I mean, for f*** sake we are charging people $13 to create an email account....you can do that for FREE. Yet they wonder why our business is going in the crapper. At the top, people have no idea what they are doing. Another example is our district manger, he doesn't know how to send emails. He came to our store to visit and asked us how to do it. It isn't like we use anything fancy either, we use Gmail.

Good news to me, that'll teach camp Com to not release anymore half ass game with no content.

dohji3654d ago

Amen to that. I tried to tell so many people this game would be ass, but hype got the best of them. I'm glad the general public knew not to buy a half assed game for once.

Flipgeneral3654d ago

Sure, it's light on the SP content, but the engine and fighting mechanics in this entry is some of the best.

WickedLester3654d ago

"Sure, it's light on the SP content, but the engine and fighting mechanics in this entry is some of the best."

@Flipgeneral,

And that's all well and good but if you're going to charge gamers 60.00 you'd BETTER have the damn content available to justify it.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio14d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing14d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit14d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing14d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9214d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
