EA confirms Battlefield 1 will have 'micro-monetizations'

"In Battlefield 1 you will see both macro-monetization--like maps and large-scale content--as well as micro-monetization opportunities," EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in the company's FY17 earnings call.

"These will be smaller increments of gameplay. Over time what you'll see from us is elements of gameplay that allow gamers to engage and expand their experience much the way people do with FIFA Ultimate Team today."

I love that DLC was created it really makes gaming better!

This game will also have a season pass that is overpriced as well. It's like people forgot this was EA in their rush to praise the game.

Hold_It3676d ago

That's why it's best to get the Premium version of the BF games rather than the vanilla + Season Pass.

Hold_It3676d ago

Well, it will probably be expansion packs like BF 3 and BF4, and the "shortcut" kits. If you don't want to level up and get better with guns to the point that you unlock more guns and attachments for that type, you can buy a pack that will skip all that.

gangsta_red3677d ago

I think it should be news for a game NOT to have DLC or micro-transactions.

But it doesnt!!! this is micro-monetization!! We are witnessing history folks!!!!

only dlc ive ever bought was for bf4 and it was ok but being seperated from players that didnt have the dlc sucked. I wish they would do something like Red Dead Redemption and let you play the maps but not gain any xp while playing them.

They should do what halo 5 did and not fragment the community - make all new maps free. If they do that I'm ok with microtransactions to generate revenue. Halo 5 has a perfect model IMO.

ALowlyRock3676d ago

Like they wouldn't already be making enough on micro transactions and the server rentals. Gotta keep that $50 season pass in there too -_-

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio37d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing37d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9237d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit37d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing37d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9236d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg40d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

jwillj2k440d ago

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

CrimsonWing6939d ago

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
