It hasn’t even been out a year yet EA is already eyeing up a sequel to last year’s Star Wars Battlefront.

I really hope EA allows Bioware or Obsidian to create another Kotor type experience

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago

Bioware is already confirmed to be working on a Star Wars game!

jb2273657d ago

Jeez, that's Bioware, Respawn, Visceral & Dice all working on SW. Pretty quality lineup really, the key will be managing those devs to create games best suited to their abilities. It seems fairly obvious from a gamer's perspective, but if they have out of touch executives making the call it could all turn out underwhelming in the long run. Bio ware needs to make a KOTOT type RPG, Visceral & Hennig need to do something akin to 1313, Dice will keep doing MP focused Battlefront & Respawn will make something that fuses those two tastes. I'm kinda interested to see if Respawn can rise up and create something more interesting than a CoD style campaign, Titanfall 2 should be a good proving ground for them, if they foul that campaign up, people may be less open to the idea of their SW game even if it is a second team. All in all pretty promising though, hopefully we see some stuff at E3 or Gamesom before Rogue One drops.

@Jb- agreed. I think that is what most are assuming, its what I've been assuming for a while lol.

Visceral confirmed to be making a Star Wars game "Oh you mean a 3rd person horror Star Wars game?": lol

Kingdomcome2473656d ago

@jb227- Respawn? Really? That's definitely news to me.

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

Expected. I wonder if they will add a long single player due to folks asking for it?

The game moving 14 million units is quite a lot and not sure if they will care that much considering, who knows. Maybe they feel they can get more sales with a single player mode with some story. Well with a finished engine, they have time.

Immorals3657d ago

Considering the drop off in players that Battlefront has seen, I'm sure they'll pay a little more attention to what people want this time. Thank god for ea access is all I can say!

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago

Maybe. Most games have such drops after release, they still go on to have sequels that keep on selling.

I'm not sure any game can have this 100% attach rate months or years after release or anything. We don't even have much examples of games that are far that much better then Battlefront after release really.

They have more time to add more features since the engine is already done so I'm expecting more features.

garrettbobbyferguson3657d ago

No they won't. Battlefront sold boat loads. EA/DICE already has everyone's money. They don't care that people stopped playing after a month. That just means more people to sell Battlefront (TWO) to.

zb1ftw7773657d ago

Times are changing.

Most multiplayer games have huge drop off rates now as soon as a new game is released.

The days of hundreds of thousands of players sticking with one game are gone.

Any decent multiplayer fps game will see 20,000 players after 6 months. Any more is a bonus.

Playerbase is fragmented now across a wide variety of games and it will only keep spreading thinner.

bloop3657d ago

Of course they care if people stopped playing it months after it released. It may have sold boat loads but the thing is, if they release the next instalment with as little content/without going back to what made the first games so good they're not going to sell half as many copies. You can be sure they're paying attention to the community because people just won't buy the next game if it's just a rehash.

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago (Edited 3656d ago )

@Bloop-" if they release the next instalment with as little content/without going back to what made the first games so good they're not going to sell half as many copies"

Isn't that what was stated about this title? Buddy, we had folks on here saying it wouldn't go past 10 million......sooooo 14 million units later, maybe most don't really care. Consider those 14 million are now the majority of Battlefront fans, not the older Battlefront series.

I think the next one will have more features and content considering MOST sequels do, did Battlefront 1 not lack flight battles? Did 2 not clearly add that?

So couldn't it be the VR SWBF they already announced?
It's the first thing that I thought.

single player? they didn't even get the multiplayer right i hope they fix that first.

Walter_Official3657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

Is anyone even surprised, and I think this news has been out there for awhile. Aside from that if they plan on not adding single player then the price must be lowered below -$40.

Edit:Anyone disagreeing is just down to be price gouged by a yearly franchise that will bring minimal differences each year.

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago

That gave me the deep lolz.

detroitmademe3657d ago

How do you figure there will be minimal differences?Give dice more credit than that. this isn't Activision we're talking about even tho I get that ea isn't much better. Dice doesn't have the "unneeded annual release"track record that those cod guys have.

cyberwaffles3657d ago

You're probably right. Commence milking a la Call of Duty style.

detroitmademe3657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

The last battlefront overall was a letdown but I believe dice has been on a roll with correcting their mistakes so I'm interested in the next one. Also the pieces are there for it to be a great game

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago

I mean, they are creating the game yes, but EA still controls that process of release, structure etc.

I think DICE can make a better game second time around consider the engine is already done and they have more time to just work on the game. I'm not just hoping for more features, I'm hoping for better too. I believe DICE can do it if given enough time.

I would love to see a mode sorta like Titan mode from 2142

Walter_Official3657d ago (Edited 3657d ago )

Its their same frostbite 3 engine, lol. They've had it for 2+ plus years.

_-EDMIX-_3657d ago

Walter- I mean in regards to assets. Battlefront used its own assets they created for the game.

cyberwaffles3657d ago

@Walter

It probably won't be the same frostbite engine. It will probably be the same engine being used for Battlefield 1, which if that's the case, the game will look great and have vast improvements.

garrettbobbyferguson3657d ago

It began when they released hero characters for 15 bucks a pop.

SegaGamer3657d ago

It actually began when EA got the license to make Star Wars games. EA will take advantage of the Star Wars fanbase and ship out a bunch of average Star Wars games full of DLC.

It's why i don't want another Jedi Knight or KOTOR game, i'm worried about what EA will do with them.
