Rocket League Dev on PS4 And Xbox One Cross Platform Play: Technically, It Was Not That Difficult

When Rocket League finally enables cross platform play across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, it will make history by being the first game in history to straddle multiple ecosystems- an impressive feat, and one that will hopefully be replicated in multiple other games to come.

I love the cross platform cross play

Is this confirmation that Sony is allowing it?

freshslicepizza3660d ago

"we just need to be able to have the go ahead"

hope so. it would be ironic now for sony to simply say it's not in their best interest and then watch all the supporters now say sony doesn't need to after all the bickering before how microsoft was the guilty party.

MasterCornholio3660d ago (Edited 3660d ago )

Sony always allowed it but they never acted like it was a big deal.

Edit:

With Final Fantasy 12 it was supported. Then with Final Fantasy 14 they wanted to do the same but Microsoft said no.

"Boom. Funny enough, Square's last online game, Final Fantasy XI, was actually cross-console on PS2, PC, and 360."

""The policy has not changed on Microsoft's side," Yoshida told RPGSite. "The main reason from our side is that I don't want the community to be divided; to be split into two or more. For example, one player might be on the PC version, another might be on the PS4 version, and I'm playing the Xbox version - but we're not able to join the same game servers. That is just... I just don't like the idea. I disagree with it."

@Cue

"was aDon Matrick issue"

No its a Microsoft issue since they are the ones who own the infrastructure of Xbox live that functions through Azure which is a whole separate division.

Phil couldn't have done this without the approval of Nadella.

with PC but competing console Eco systems have never been supported

ocelot073660d ago

True but didn't Sony publicly say there fine with cross play with other consoles a few years ago. Just before Final Fantasy XIV released. People where wondering why it was not coming to Xbox. Then it was revealed Microsoft did not like the idea of allowing cross play with other consoles.

It would be a bit silly if Sony now turns around and says there not interested in it.

The choice of not having Xbox live working with other devices was aDon Matrick issue

freshslicepizza3659d ago

great, let's hope now sony doesn't change their mind because microsoft has sent an open invitation so from their end they are ready to go. all sony has said after microsoft was finally onboard and open to the idea is this,

http://www.inquisitr.com/28...

“Because PC is an open platform it’s much more straightforward. Connecting two different closed networks is much more complicated so we have to work with developers and publishers to understand what it is they are trying to accomplish,” Yoshida explained. “We also have to look at the technical aspect – and the technical aspect could be the easiest. We also have to look at policy issues and business issues as well.”

that sounds like a bunch of pr to me. it does not sound like they are so open. hopefully thyey prove me wrong.

With the new systems rumored to be released, i think its a excellent idea to open the networks for all. Sony has a more powerful console right now with the PS4, yet next year the new xbox may be more powerful?

30fps sucks. Especially on an OLED.
