Wow, that's quite interesting. It's neat to see the business side of things. From the sounds of it, it looks like Vivendi is full of crap and are definitely looking to eventually make themselves a majority owner. The fact that Ubi went to the govt shows they're definitely running scared, too.

If it's that much of a problem for the company and they want to be independent why don't they just become a private company and not a public one? Must not be to scary for them to not do that.

joeorc3675d ago

Well @Fries1223
they would have to buy back their companies stock..than take it private once again when all stock is bought back.

That is if the person or group or hedge fund would sell..but its a good way to remain in control as you stated.

COGconnected3675d ago

The fact that Ubi has gone public about this tells me a lot.

GrapesOfRaf3675d ago

Could be interesting to see Canada intervene somehow. I just wish less companies went public these days to preserve some independence.

OrangePowerz3675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

Ubi might not like it but it's not ilegal. It's funny that they call themselves Independent. They have to answer to shareholders, that's not really independent.

Erik73573675d ago

Exactly, if they wanted to avoid this problem they would become private and not be a publicly traded company in the stock market. They are just mad that there is a company buying a large amount of them which puts a lot of power in the hands of a entity.

For a very good reason, that Sony may not wanted such creeping control buy up.
Their conglomerate of PlayStation is a whole owned Subsidiary with no public offer of any of its PlayStation Stock.

You can buy Sony Stock, but you get no access to the PlayStation part of the corpus. Reason being its pretty much a held asset. Sony is the holdings company.

PlayStation has its own corpus& governance body IE : its very own. Board of directors..

Thats one sure fire way to protect your subsidiary from a hostile takeover.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio25d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing25d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit25d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing25d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9225d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg28d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

jwillj2k428d ago

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

CrimsonWing6927d ago

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
