Does Playstation Need to Improve PS Plus?

As you’ve probably heard by now, Sony released their list of upcoming free PS4 titles for PlayStation Plus subscribers yesterday. If you haven’t, then prepare yourself for disappointment.

I like seeing indie games, don't see what all whining is about. I wouldn't want a AAA one all the time. Give smaller games a chance. Look how well Rocket League did when it is was free.

Aloy-Boyfriend3669d ago

To me it looks like some people don't know what they are paying for anymore.

Kingthrash3603669d ago (Edited 3669d ago )

Yeah seems they forgot people were paying for ps+ when it only had discounts and mini games and only supported one console....now for the same price it give better games NEW games bigger discounts all while supporting 3 different platforms.
Still we complain.
Xbl is doing great though. ...right? RIGHT?? what games did they have this month? Why not an article asking them the same question? Why not have this article ask them both? Clicks? Oh...makes sense then.
All in all even if Sony and MS gave out nothing but AAA games people would still complain. ..Saying things like "I already bought this" or "we need better AAA games." Smh free stuff complaints will never end.

gangsta_red3669d ago

"To me it looks like some people don't know what they are paying for anymore."

Well considering what people are paying for is now suddenly mandatory I think we can safely assume they do know they have to pay to play online. Which is a shame since the PS3 still offers their online service for free, some people seem to forget that.

Sony and MS could offer games that are at least more appealing and not cheap throwaway titles.

freshslicepizza3669d ago

make online multiplayer for free and lets see how well the subsctiption does, then we will know how good it is.

Realms3668d ago

@gansta_red

How is it mandatory? You pay to play online not for free games if people want to complain about dedicated servers, better online infrastructure, security reliability fine but stop this nonsense about free games Xbox live didn't have free games for years and yet people willingly gave MS money.

The problem is people think (or act like) that the indie games being offered are somehow Rocket League quality in terms of design and fun. And that is just not the case.

Being an indie game doesn't automatically make the game good.

So I agree, give the smaller games a chance, but at the same time those smaller games have to be good.

PurpHerbison3669d ago

Rocket League is like the only game I can ever remember that came out of PS+

Deadpooled3668d ago (Edited 3668d ago )

Broforce was alright imo, other than that, the InFamous game and Rocket League I don't remember any other games released on PS+ recently

PurpHerbison3669d ago

It has gotten to the point where I don't even look up what is coming out next month. Too much disappointment.

admiralvic3669d ago

See, I think so much of this is rooted in people not "getting" the complaints/logic.

Let me make this simple. When people say AAA, they really just mean "quality" games. However, saying you want higher quality games is a really vague request. So, instead of saying they want better/higher quality games, a lot of people say they want AAA/retail games, since they tend to be quality titles.

This is why, despite some people campaigning like crazy, some were disappointed by Zombi being offered. It wasn't, by many peoples standards, a quality title, so they were disappointed. This is also why, say, Sherlock Holmes, Neptunia and a lot of other retail games will disappoint people.

With that being said, it's also important to realize that Rocket League is NOT typical. I mean, so atypical that it was offered roughly 10 months ago and its the "go to" defense for Plus. If you were to roll back a year earlier than that, you would see pretty much every month had at least one gem.

July 2014 - Dead Space 3 / Strider / Muramasa
August 2014 - Dragon's Crown / Fez / Crysis 3
September 2014 - PS All-Stars / Velocity 2x
October 2014 - Spelunky / Dust / Batman: AA
etc

Both offerings for next month are severely lacking.

ApolloTheBoss3669d ago

I agree with you but at least one of those games is a AAA title, the second one released this year after Zombi. This gives me hope that PS Plus will improve over time. (Hopefully)

rainslacker3668d ago

Tropico is actually a very good game. But it is an acquired taste and won't appeal to every body.

Chaosdreams3669d ago

In my humble opinion, since PS Plus is essentially mandatory for gamers to game online (scam) then yes, they can improve the service. They do offer a variety of experiences so in most cases there are gamers who can gain a few titles that they like and enjoy - thus breaking even. But there's no arguing that since PS Plus became mandatory for online connectivity, the offerings have been, say, less than extravagant. It's in no way the biggest problem right now in terms of gaming and as long as there are titles that appeal to gamers, things will be okay.

If and when the offerings become completely horrible for a year (thus the cycle requiring a new payment), there will be a vocal call out as to why Plus exists in the first place. (I still rather it didn't exist but whatever, I'm left with no option but to pay for the service in order to play online. On games I already purchased... Yeah... Annoying).

Ilovetheps53669d ago

I think that the fact that it's mandatory is the reason that it doesn't have many good games these days. I think that the publishers know that there are a lot more people subscribed to PS+, so they are going to be giving out way more copies of the games. That means they are losing out on potentially more sales. I know back when PS+ was young, I would find a cool game, tell a friend about it and he'd buy it. Now, I can't tell a friend about a game and them buy it because pretty much my entire friend's list is PS+ members.

Kingthrash3603669d ago

I think one point you made is half true and if you look at it it may be the sole reason why games are less extravagant.
You said since ps+ is mandatory the games should be better, but there are two things you are forgetting.
1...ps+ WAS ALWAYS MANDATORY FOR THE GAMES. ...you simply already had to pay for a sub to get free games...though I agree that it sucks that playing online mp has to be done by having a sub to plus...but that money should technically go to better online play..since its not the games that make it Mando it's the online mp component.
Secondly the day ps4 was released it added a new console to have to bring out monthly games to. Thats more cost for them..making it now 3 platforms to buy games for. This isn't free for sony...they have to pay developers for this. So more money out of the budget. ..yes you bet you cargo pants they have a budget on how much to spend, that's why you see so many cross buy games on the ps+ releases now.
Now I'm not making an excuse here but that is the reality of it. If they drop plus support for the ps3 or vita I bet that's when the AAA will start rolling in.

Rachel_Alucard3669d ago

The actual reason I believe is because of the simple fact that the service is being offered on 3 separate consoles and rather than have a bolstering library on one console they chose to spread out the quality amongst 3. If the vita for example had nothing but retail releases for 6 months it would have offered just about every game you'd ever want to own on the thing. PS3 itself is beginning to run dry after 6 years.

trywizardo3669d ago

hell yeah
the free games sucks,so i skipped most of them
the servers are shit
and the party .... the stupid party -_-
but now we can go offline so we can skip the nonsense of the party crap xD

DualWielding3669d ago

no they don't need to... they have gamers by the ball they'll continue subscribing no matter what so they have no compelling incentive to improve the service that's why they haven't done it

Aloy-Boyfriend3669d ago

They'll continue subscribing because they need it to play online. I don't wait for PS+ to play old games for free. Gimme a great online experience. So far since tge launch of PS4 that's what I've got

PygmelionHunter3669d ago (Edited 3669d ago )

Precisely. You just proved his point. The fact that we have to pay for PS+ just to enjoy a big part of the $60 we pay for every retail game is a result of PS3 owners subscribing to have access to what at the time was a good library in the Instant Game Collection.

Unfortunately, the IGC doesn't exist anymore, since now you need to download the games as they come out every month. Not to mention, the quality of the games available has decreased enormously. So, the only reason we would really have to keep paying for the aforementioned premium service is to be able to play online. This comes as hypocritical considering how much PS3 owners bashed Xbox Gold last gen precisely because it made online play an unnecessary paywall for products we already own.

So yes. Sony has no incentive to improve the service as long as they know we are dumb enough to pay extra for something we are entitled to by already buying a copy of the games at $60.

Aloy-Boyfriend3669d ago

@pyg

"The fact that we have to pay for PS+ just to enjoy a big part of the $60 we pay for every retail game is a result of PS3 owners subscribing to have access to what at the time was a good library in the Instant Game Collection"

No! The fact that now we have so many online dependent games is why we need to pay for the maintenance of them. It was cool when it was free, but it was laggy. Ever since the PS4 it's been much better.

I was a PS+ day one subscriber, and the service didn't start giving games since the start. It pretty much had features locked behind it plus trials, freebies, and demos.

All Sony did was merge PS+ with PSN and give us altogether what others or me needed to pay for with PS+. Yes, the instant collection has got worse. I'm just surprised who fixated are people with this. You can't win all the months. Some will be better than others. At least the online has got much better.

@Easy

Not sure what you mean with that.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio17d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing16d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit16d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing16d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9216d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg20d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

jwillj2k420d ago

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

PRIMORDUS20d ago

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

CrimsonWing6919d ago

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
