Random encounters are pretty annoying, is it there to add difficulty or provide inconvenience to the players? If not for difficulty, I think the flee option should just be prompted before even engaging.
Haven't see many super open-world JRPGS that require backtrack requiring fast travel, I mean, by the time you have to you'll have SOME method to get there faster, at least if it's actually required or expected. Open-world like ES, sure, but JRPGS aren't like that as far as I've experienced.
Auto-save could screw you too.
I do think the character we play should have a voice, not just have his/her mind read by the supporting characters.
Bad voice acting plagues every genre..
None of these are annoyances except bad translation not voice acting. The reason why I said bad translation is due to the JRPG is done with Japanese Voice Acting then translated to English Voice Acting which we know the result of bad voice acting. The true annoyance with JRPGS is most of them are stuck with 16 bit or 8 bit graphics unless is a Square Enix Title. Another annoyance is the same story about good versus evil and is up to kids to save the world.
With the exception of number 1, I have to disagree with this list.
There is nothing wrong with games having dedicated save points. It's not just an outdated mechanic in need of updating, it's a design choice that makes sense for certain games.
Fast travel isn't a necessity either. Again, it's down to the design of the game.
I can understand why some might not like mute protagonists, but again, some games can pull it off well. I for one would not like Persona 5 to have a voiced protagonist.
As for random battles, I'm fine with them. My only annoyance comes when they are so frequent you can barely take 5 steps before triggering another one.
