The Doom beta which began on April 15th-18th had an interesting reception from players to say the least. Steam reviews had a mostly negative review rating, with many players echoing the same sentiment that this new Doom is not representative of the Doom games of old.
Which is what has been most of the marketing for this new Doom title, Bethesda is banking on player nostalgia to drive sales and the blood and gore to attract new players who are more used to Halo or Call of Duty titles.
Evercade has teased a new DOOM release for their platform.
I hope they make a Doom themed VS unit with red lighting. it will be like the Duke 3d one they did a couple years ago.

Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

The video game industry is already so creative, but one thing that can be improved is its handling of space.
After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.
It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

Uh oh, another author misusing the word "nostalgia" again. It is true that Bethesda is banking on old fans of Doom to drive sales but the original gameplay was almost perfect what it is which is in-your-face violent action. There's nothing wrong with adjusting to the times in terms of graphics, map design, physics, storytelling.. etc but there are always main design decisions that shouldn't be changed so that it can stand out from the rest of generic clones. I always thought nostalgia is when someone enjoys the negative aspects as well as the good from of a past event or item in order to enjoy it but most people using the word believes its for admiration for timeless classics as well.
Example:
Enjoying an episode of Street Sharks - Being Nostalgic
Enjoying the movie Jon Carpenter's The Thing or Akira - Enjoying a classic
In a time where so many shooters are melting together, the prospect of a Doom that plays like the first is exciting because it brings variety to what is offered now. But wasn't the main problem the multiplayer aspect because I assure you that a majority of the players wants Doom for the campaign.
Honestly they need to stick to the original gameplay formula and then give it a modern day look with graphics
Might feel dated but it will provide that
nostalgic feeling to older players. Resident Evil remake did a good example of what some people would want.
Its a hard one as a developer I guess, to keep original fans they need to make it spark memories whilst playing it by keeping to its roots but on the other hand to attract new players who have grown up with cinematic shooters such as CoD and Halo are going to want something similar than what they are used to.
I'm going to wait for the reviews before deciding and watch some single player gameplay, just hoping this doesn't turn into Cod/Halo in the Doom setting.
