there are too much great games for it, and I still have half of my library untouched, that's a reason for me to buy another PS2 in case my other PS2 fails.

It would be even smarter if they added the Import Device I have in my PS2! so that way the can experience oversea's Japan games they rock as well on the PS2! I have New Alter Beast, Both School Rumble games, Kanon ect ect. All I'm saying is they should promote Japan games as well people are missing out on Unique BadA$$ Games on their system!

Don't 4get the DS is catching up to the PS2 Legacy!

Who does not own a PS2. Really, I think I'm the only one. Had the PS1, then got the xbox, now I own all three systems and the psp.

I know there are lots of great games... but now that I have the latest and greatest, I find myself not wanting to go back. The only "old school" game I play these days is Black from the original xbox.

(Excited tho when opened the PS2 box, and had SOOOOOOO many happy years with it to) ;-P

I just don't understand why sony would release a new ps2 model. the only reason I've got in mind is that their strategy could be this:

ps2 for ps2 games

ps3 for ps3 games

The most relevant reason why sony chose to phase out the 80gb model and go with the 40gb. and surely it costs less to produce a ps2 and a 40 gb ps3 instead of one 80gb model. That's what I think.

Edit: Otherwise, sony is dumb on this one as they sould focus on making the ps3 a better gaming system because sometimes I honestly think that it's a better multimedia machine than a game machine.

To be honest Sony should just go forward with a price cut to recap the losses of the PS3.Plenty of lower class consumers would rather pick this up than the Wii.

70-100 dollars should do the trick

I am pretty sure a <=$99 will show up sooner or later. But it still sells well, for what it costs.

I just had to go back to my old apartment for a week and brought my old big PS2. Got "Black" for $19.99. Man, I missed out on that one until now. What a great game. Can't imagine the PS2 could do that. Still rather OK for a non HD TV set, I think.

I would still hope, they'll add a wifi and a bluetooth together with the DS3, so I don't need any cables and can use all my controllers on either the PS3 or the PS2. (won't happen, I know, but maybe get rid of the Ethernet port, and producing one controller for both, PS2/3 could compensate for the costs in doing so).

Yup the PS2 does still rock, I still have the fat PS2 from longs agos, and I remember the first game I got for it was Kingdom Hearts, good times!!! This new one is looking sweet, might get it if my PS2 fat fails which I don't think will happen

you know the ps2 is still the biggest competitor for the ps3. up until this year most of the good games were coming out for ps2(gow2,persona3fes,etc)
come on sony ms dumped the xbox what 3years ago move on please.

why would sony dump the PS2 when it's still making tons of money.

If they release a wiimote like control, with the sensor bars or just improve more on their EYEToy line, they can still boost sales.
it would be like a Wii but even cheaper.

Ive got a 60gb PS3 I've never played PS2 games on it ,then again there's a PS2 in the house. Never bought the PS3 for its back compatibility anyway :)

The Wii would have to still sell like hot cakes
for quite a few years before it even catches the PS2, not
saying it can't but it wont be easy knowing Nintendo's
reputation of 5-6 year life span of it's consoles.

Well, and maybe the PS3... you never know. Unless the PS3 will ever drop to around $100, it might well be the PS2 will stay for a while, even after the PS3 - but with a new PS4 replacing the PS3 (and playing all PS3 games).

Its going strong so sony might just kill ps3 and keep this one. This is making more sales than ps3 will ever do in its lifetime.

Threw first ps2 because of bad drive tray or some laser head not working $hit. The other one sold for 50$ to buy the best console of this gen, the 360.

Got to love it, I gave my PS2 to my cousin, lol.

So far, all my PS2 games are GREAT with BC not to mention being able to "download" saves that unlock everything so I don't have to start over

i dont get having a ps2 games and a ps3...because if you have ps2 games you should have a ps2, that way you can have two systems...but go sony..keep pushing, just give me my touch screen psp and i will make love to the head of SCEA (whoever that is)

if you can play ps2 and ps3 games on the same console, you only have to have one console plugged into your tv. Its a complete waste of money to buy a ps2 if you have a ps3 that plays all ps2 games. The ps3 also upscales ps2 games for HDTV owners.

Theres a bundle at gamestop for 150.....the batman ps2..once again that item will sell like hot cakes. if i was a parent with a tiny one i recommend this bundle...Lego batman is going to kickass

what an undestructible little bastard this thing is!
after all the PS3 whooplah, after all the "next gen 1080p graphics" and horsepower of this new shiny system, the PS2 refuses to die.
i personally think that's awesome. I've been eager to get a PS3 (i'll wait for the 160GB model however), but for the mean time i still play my PS2 about 4-5 hours a day.
add in all the games i haven't gotten around to playing, or may just test out since used games are generally dirt cheap? i could be playing my PS2 for the next 8 years easily.

You guys just don't understand the history that the PS2 is making. It will definitely make it to the museum, because THE PS2 IS A PREhIstOriC MOnsTeRrrr! IMO I don't think the PS3 is gonna die out until, at least, shortly after the year 2020 ( if Mayan 2012 don't happen, and if it did the PS3 will still be here - BECAUSE IT's A BEAST!)

The PS2 can survive longer than we can predict right now. Just think of all the games that are already out for it, that's underrated, and MANY gamers haven't played. Also, if there was no PS3, the PS2 could still directly compete with Wii, the leading system right now. As long as Wii lasts, there will be a market for PS2, in which equals = cheaper, much more established Wii. Not to mention, did we forget that PSEye, the new "motion controller", and ethernet is all capable on the PS2? SONY never elaborated on the PS2 because their network was "slightly unstabled", but with the PSN pumping right now, who says the PS2 should die?

SONY release a new enthernet adapter to allow PS2 users to easily play upcoming games online? I still play MK:Armageddon online often ( on my PS3). I'm surprised of the amount of users sometime. Than I start to wonder: Are they PS2 or PS3 users? Hmmm :|
Not to mention if the EyeToy starts to pick up, along with the new wii-like joystick...
