Single-Player Games That Should Have Multiplayer

Daniel Meegan over at IGCritic says "Multiplayer is a big business. It’s so big, in fact, that there are many games that seem bafflingly conspicuous by its absence. Not every game needs multiplayer, but there are many for which it would be a great fit"

Completely disagree. Alien: Isolation, Firewatch, and The Order shouldn't have had MP modes.

I wouldn't say that Alien Isolation "should have" had a multiplayer component, but I'd sure like to have seen what they could have done with it.

Alien Isolation was a great game and surely didnt need a multiplayer.
But I imagine what they could have done too.
If the ship was a seamless open world and players would go around and collect food and items to stay alive with an alien or multiple aliens on board. that would be interesting. Will you team up? be the lone wolf? Be a shy pacifist? a agressive or sneaky killer?

Avoid or use droids, manipulate computers and systems, set traps... survive.
THe droids looked freaky, the ALIEN and its AI is amazingly good, and human players are allies or backstabers, aggressive or shy. would be interesting.
Throw some random objectives into the mix like systems failing in parts of the ship that might have to be fixed for players to get through or even just survive, maybe doors jam or lock down, or oxygen levels drop and you have to get it back up by hacking or pushing auto breakers... what if you have a suit an dturn air of on purpose to kill other people? your field of view is limited and you are a bit slower but you can turn of oxygen, hide and sit it through waiting for people in your area to die... they could do so many smart and interesting things with this... Holy shit...

Those titles don't have multiplayer modes because that isn't the focus of the game I don't care for multiplayer modes in games that were not created for the concept of.

That being said I of course love multiplayer games that were created and focused on the concept of creating a great multiplayer experience that doesn't necessarily mean that act on single player is something I like or desire just because I love the Bioshock doesn't mean that I love all the single player modes in Battlefield....

Multiplayer modes are big business I don't disagree but GOOD multiplayer modes are big business, not merely tacked on feature if you did not focus the core concept on that feature it's very clear you're not going to get a positive reception multiplayer isn't something you just tack on just like single player isn't something you just tack on.

it's absolutely disrespectful to developers that have spent long years focusing on creating a very powerful narrative it's just as disrespectful to the multiplayer teams that have been crafting their games to be balanced and fair for years.

No one developer cannot rush a concept that they're not even the best in the first place.

It's absolutely disrespectful to the teams that actually really spend large amount of talent focusing on such concepts.

Got a soft spot for AvP (2010) but solid list nonetheless.

My favorite Aliens game also, having the three campaigns to play was great. Scaling walls as an alien waiting to ambush anyone that came too close.

Only played a little of the horde mode but was still fun.

Aliens Fireteam Elite was my GotY in 2021, single player was kinda bad but playing that game 3 player with friends was so good and really challenging on higher difficulties

Massive shout out to Aliens Vs predator 2 (2001), a dialup lag filled fun mess in multiplayer and 3 great campaigns
