Star Fox Zero isn't far away, yet rather than unquestionable hype about the first series entry for over a generation, much of the talk is over its control scheme. As the Wii U heads towards its retirement it seems like an apt conflict - innovation vs familiarity, instinctive play versus unfamiliar control.
The two tweets below, featuring our own Damien McFerran and familiar Nintendo fan Roger DiLuigi III, perhaps exemplify the split in opinion that'll only increase once the game hits stores.

Takaya Imamura, famed ex-Nintendo developer known for his work on the F-Zero and Star Fox franchises, has taken to social media to ponder the possibility of a Star Fox Zero release on Nintendo's upcoming 'Switch 2'.
It's a good ponder. Nintendo would be stupid to not do it. The more titles and first party line up released on the Switch 2 the more enticed the customer will be.

Has time been kind to Star Fox Zero? Does the game have any redeeming qualities that are worthy of revisiting? Should it be considered for a port to the Switch? Was it really that bad?
Haven't played it since it came out, but I really enjoyed it. Can't tell if that's just nostalgia-tinted glasses, or if I actually consider it a good game though lol.
It's a mediocre game that reuses ideas, scenarios, characters and moments from previous ones. Paired with one of the worst control methods that I had the displeasure of using.
controls made me stop playing also what good is a 65inch tv when you have to look at a tiny Wiiu tablet.. same with kirby & the rainbow curse..
No it was great, just the control scheme spoilt things really. The wii u screen was not needed for it really

But any potential design changes would be up to Nintendo if it happens.
I’d rather Star Fox Assault be brought to Switch with online multiplayer instead
Platinum Games wants to many things but sadly it does not show nothing new for years! They try to jump on all offers but end finishing none!
I rather have them show more of Bayonetta 3 first before they talking about any new project.
This reeks Inafune's funding for Red Ash and Mighty No.9 animated series, both never materialized.
Unfortunately, this looks like yet another Wii U game that will be ruined by its gimmicky controls, just like Kirby's Rainbow Curse and Wonderful 101 before it. This quote from the article pretty much sums up the problem: "In single player you play the Nintendo way or no way at all." No flexibility, no ability to just play the game with just a standard controller.
Nintendo seems to want to force these kinds of unappealing gimmicks on their customers, when most people just want to play games in a traditional manner. What a shame.
Star Fox looks so good. Reviewers are speaking high of it. I loved it when I beat it.
Funny thing is, this article is about a conversation I had.
Looks fun, But Star Fox 64 is still my favorite
