Despite what the press would have you believe, smartphones will never (in their current form) be a real competitor to dedicated handheld devices.

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

TNS - NCSoft CEO admitted that AI is rapidly becoming a core part of game development, but he added that it cannot replace what makes games fun.
To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.
Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.
It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
"Deck13 Spotlight and Just2D are proud and excited to announce that DROVA – Forsaken Kin, the acclaimed grim and dank pixel RPG, set in a mystic Celtic world and celebrated by fans all over the world, is out now on iOS and Android!" - Deck13 Spotlight and Just2D.
Misleading headline. The article doesn't even try to make the case that smartphones cannot evolve into forms that can produce gaming experiences rivaling dedicated handhelds. It simply lays out the current problems with smartphone games and even then many of the points do not apply to all mobile games.
It's not so much as the mobile games themselves, as it's the lack of tactile controls. Making allowances for bluetooth joypads becomes somewhat onerous when some models refuse to slide easily into and out of one's own pocket.

[The thing is though that despite there being numerous iterations of these smartphones, not one of them has been able to provide the end user with an experience that matches a 3DS right out of the box.
I know that many will jump up and state that you can play GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas on your Android/iOS device. So what? To properly play it you need to get a gamepad because otherwise the overall experience is just dire. Lets bear in mind as well that depending on your device, your performance will vary wildly so you’re not exactly getting an optimal experience.]
This "was" a problem..now with many ga.es ha ing Bluetooth or OTG wired gamepad support..adding buttons built in only makes your handheld game console bulkier and by making full external game pad support would allow the experience to such of that of a living room game console..
The idea that the experience would have a variation being a negative is like anything nust like the PC..it would be one thing if there was no wsy to patch the problems, but in todays day and age most of the time patches are added even to the mobile handheld smartphones.
The Hardware they use is the same companies chips that are inside the 3DS & PSVita
Both of which are ARM holdings chipsets..majority in smartphones are ARM Holdings designs likewise. .
There really is not much of a difference anymore other than one has included physical controls while the other would need a external game pad support.
And the full game pad support for ga.ing is much better. ontrol scheme than what the PSVita or 3DS has to control games..and I own both DS & PSVita ..I like the handhelds do not get me wrong..but playing
GTA vice city stories on my PSVita or on my Smsrtphone with my Logitech dual action with /OTG wire hookup just plays better on my Android smartphone.
I think the vita would've had much more success had it been able to do everything a smart phone could while maintaining its priority as a gaming console. I would've bought one day one had I been able to replace it with my smart phone. To me, that's the main thing that held it back from mass appeal.
