Dark Souls 3 PS4 Patch 1.03 Frame-Rate Test + Analysis

Digital Foundry:

Amid reports of poor in-game performance in later areas of the game, John checks out the key reported trouble-spots, testing them out on patch 1.03 - the ‘day one’ version of the game for the Western launch.

It's smoother than I was led to believe by PC trolls. Fromsotf seems to have got a bit better with the BB engine. It also feels smoother than BB a bit. So far not experiencing any drastic drop

VJGenova3689d ago

I get the occassional frame drop, but it picks back up. Usually running a steady 50-60 FPS, Ultra, no AA 4k, with my 2 980tis.

Better than most launch titles for sure.

Ruggadagod3689d ago

That's why it's best to avoid the internet while playing a new game sometimes. Just to have an open mind. Especially to avoid these PC master race baiters.

Tell me about it...

Just got the game yesterday on ps4 ,downloaded the day one patch and played it for about 2 hrs. I had to get used to the 30fps frame-rate since I was coming straight from a DS2 ps4 refresher run at ~60fps which I did, 5 minutes in.

I didn't notice any stutter, frame drops or frame pacing issues to be honest. Maybe its the early levels, maybe its the patch? We'll see soon enough.

Vegamyster3689d ago

The issue i see is frame pacing which has bothered me a fair bit in Bloodbourne and its a shame they didn't fix it in the console versions.

dantesparda3689d ago

Yeah, the fact that From Software seems unable to either fix it or acknowledge in both BB and DS3 is both a letdown and infuriating.

VJGenova3689d ago

Frame pacing in bloodborne was an issue for me too. Sorry to hear DS3 has the same issues on console. :-/

VJGenova3689d ago

Ok, looks like I may have spoke too soon. When summoning a couple phantoms and fighting a lot of enemies i got rates in the high 30s to low 50s. Still fairly stable, but when picking up items or performing other actions the frames consistently skip. Certainly not gamebreaking, and again, I am pushing the graphics as much as possible. I heard dropping the lighting quality helps, but have yet to try myself.

I would say they did pretty good overall and it will only get better in the coming months.

From software is just not a good developer when it comes to the technical side of their games.(talking about their console versions and BB)

sullynathan3689d ago

and their PC side. Japanese companies kinda suck at the technical side of games.

nX3689d ago

I haven't had any major technical problems with ether of them and they have less bugs than any Ubisoft release.

wsoutlaw873689d ago

I know. Talk about over reacting.

sullynathan3689d ago

you haven't played Dark Souls at 15fps on pc, or how low the fps is on PS3 & 360. BB having framerate drops and inconsistent frames to this day and DS3 crashing on PC.

iNathan3689d ago

Game is solid 30 problem is frame pacing, if you dont know what it is go check DF or NX Gamer.

dantesparda3689d ago

The game is not solid 30fps, at least not on the consoles.

SpinalRemains1383689d ago (Edited 3689d ago )

Maybe I'm insane, but during all 5 of the Souls games, never has the frame rate infuriated me like it does so many.

Blighttown was bad, but it didn't ruin the game. I don't see the problem the same way others do I guess.

It's not like it slows down the way Nintendo did. The games are still some of the best I have ever played in my life.

So far DSIII is flawless.

wsoutlaw873689d ago

When people complain online the things they complain about seems worse than it really is. I noticed the frame rate in blighttown but wasnt too bothered by it and the rest of the game was fine.

deadfrag3689d ago

Again From Software dont gives a shit about the horrible Frame_pacing issue.Bad developers.
