Hands on with PlayStation VR

The Vexoid team get their first experience with PlayStation VR at this year's EGX Rezzed.

I had exactly the same experience at EGX. I though the London heist demo was blurry as well. ALthough I tried teh Play room and it was in much sharper focus.

What else did you try?

Is it worth the money?

I also tried The Playroom https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I was pleasantly surprised actually by how much fun it was. It would be great for younger gamers as a good party game, or as a gentle entry level VR experienc. The resolution seemed much better to me than the London Heist, that may be because the action on London heist was more fast paced (the attendant did explain that the game was using old code, and that it would most likely be be optimised for release)

As a comparator, I also tried the Occulus Rift at EGX The demo I tried as was The Assemby https://www.youtube.com/wat...

But to be honest I had issues with it. To start with I couldn't put the HMD on because of my glasses (this was not a problme with PSVR) The attendant trying to adjust the HMD was failing miserably, and eventually I had to use it without my glasses on. Personally I don't think that The Assembly was a good game to demo the Occulus, as the gameplay was mostly an on-rails experience with very little interaction for the players.

The Occulus HMD was front heavy and tight around my face in an uncomfortable way. The screen door effect was noticable (definately more noticable that on PSVR), and the combined effect made be feel quite claustrohobic.

The attendant did explain that the Occulus model was the DK2, and that the consumer model had higher specifications.

So as far as my (limited) VR experice at EGX, I'd say PSVR won over the Occulus Rift. (HTC Vive was fully booked and so didn't manage to get any hands on with it).

All-in-All, I think VR will be worth the money, and it's definately here to stay. The real selling point though will depend on the quality of the games and the experiences that will be released for it. I hope that after E3 we will see some of those experiences and games that will make VR a real 'must-have'.

i would like to hear from non-biased people on how they all work including vive. so when i see someone suggest they like psvr most (which isn't a problem at all and it could very well offer the best experience) i will then look into a users post history. and when i do that and see nothing but promoting psvr and not a hint of being a pc gamer and more of a ps4 gamer then their opinion means nothing to me, sorry.

can't wait! I've heard a lot of good things from its comfort to its lack of screen door effect from it sub pixel array tech. This is one of the few that I've seen with some negative

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2142d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
