Five Franchises That Need Resurrecting

Franchises rise, franchises fall. This is the nature of video games. However, there are many fallen or dormant franchises that deserve a second chance and with the arrival of a new generation of consoles, what better time to resurrect some of these overlooked franchises.

i dont get the whole super hyped praise from mainstream game media for Beyond Good & Evil...the game was mechanically solid and artistically mediocre to good but not smthing special ,why so much need for a sequel ? ..the only game from the list worth coming back is Crash (and is coming) ...all others have/had mediocre demand and appealing

Rebel_Scum3702d ago

I wouldn't want to see any of those mentioned come back. I'm not a big fan of reboots and remakes.

Put a gun to my head and I'll probably blabber the Strike series, Alex Kidd or Destruction Derby but then that would still be under duress.

NapalmSanctuary3702d ago

Strike series is good. There's a game called Thunderwolves on psn and xbl that reminded me of it at first sight but I bought it and can't invert right stick. It was a bit of a tragedy.

Rebel_Scum3702d ago

Well there was Renegade Ops but that was more of a take on Jackyll.

EA did file a trademark for Desert Strike 3 years ago but nothings come of it ;_;

Heavenly Sword, Bloodrayne, and Half-Life

oakshin3702d ago

I quit playing zelda to play soul reaver IMO it was better in almost every way.....soo that should tell u how i feel lol

Sciurus_vulgaris3702d ago

I would disagree with the author on Deadspace. The series had an entry 3 years, Dead Space 3. There are other games, that people want which haven't had a proper entries for a decade or more.

OG Left 4 Dead Creator Announces He's Working On A New Multiplayer Shooter

L4D had potential to be so much more. The issue was that the release of the second game just one year after the first added a decent amount of content which was much needed, then there was nothing except for a few small content updates spread far between.

This is one of the only games I can think of that benefits from a yearly release, or at least a yearly DLC so it doesn't split the player base.

The games just got too samey and lack content.. it's a shame they didn't keep up the pace, I know you can download new maps but it doesn't change the overall game or add new enemies etc.

Regardless of what Valve officially said they didn’t need to do a sequel that fast, things could have easily been added to the original overtime and the sad thing is the characters and atmosphere of the original was better than the sequel. I mean we went from the dark, grim city streets to the sunny south where we are hitting massive menacing tanks with frying pans.

I honestly believe Valve killed it because it was a Turtle Rock game at its core and Valve wanted it to be known as an Valve only IP moving forward

They even brought back the original survivors just to kill one of them off (even though in the original they were heading North to Canada)

Lol L4D2 came out in 2009, and you are saying it should have been a 2020s type live service game. It's just a great game, it doesn't need battle passes and skins.

This attitude is why devs are afraid to make any multiplayer game that isn't a live service.

Jingsing271d ago (Edited 271d ago )

Also in these current economic times live services is just a no go when people are being more frugal with their purchasing power. I don't do any subscription services anymore which means I can't do multiplayer on a console even if I wanted too. Something the console manufacturers should think about if they want to get players to even try their online stuff.

EA Cut Dead Space's Marketing Budget to Pour Into Mirror's Edge Due to Mock Review Scores

Former Visceral Games devs reveal Dead Space's marketing budget was cut in favor of Mirror's Edge because of mock review scores.

I wish EA would just release a DS2 remake. DS is my favorite horror game and DS2 is the best one in the franchise. But because DS1 failed to meet certain numbers EA scrapped the DS2 remake. SH2 remake was great rumors are Konami might be asking for another SH remake. The RE2 remake was great EA just needs to give it another try. But all they seem to do is shitty sports games that are no different from the year before. Change a few players, add different uniform colours, maybe change a team logo. Wash, rinse, repeat.

goken520d ago

Agreed. DS was great. But DS2 was even better. Would love to see a DS2 remake, though I would love to see a DS4 even more.
The problem with EA is they make easy $ from the slight changes to their sports titles like football FC games (whatever it’s called nowadays). People just lap that sh1t up.
Comparatively, games like DS which don’t sell 10s of millions, can’t sell them team player add ons and all the like, would seem a hassle to make and unappealing comparatively. Especially when you consider that most EA non sport titles haven’t actually performed well recently.

Dark Souls 2, Darksiders 2, Dead Space 2, Death Stranding 2, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

chicken_in_the_corn519d ago

The Dead space remake was so good. Better than the original. Shame they won't remake 2.

__y2jb519d ago

I loved the original dead space but the remake I just found boring. Game design has moved on and the game really showed its age, just small area encounters repeated again and again.

I bought Dead Space during launch window and I never bought a Mirror's Edge game .

Inverno519d ago

Then they went on to screw both games over.

UnbreakableAlex519d ago

I'd rather see a new and great Mirrors Edge than another boring Dead Space.
