Unexpected Plot Twists in Gaming

Jo from GamersFTW writes: "Well, I didn’t see that coming! A phrase which many of us will have uttered. Plot twists are something that were once reserved for films and television shows, but as games become more immersive it is no surprise that the narratives and plot take on a film like quality. Be it a betrayal by someone you trusted, an unexpected death, or something which you just simply couldn’t imagine being true until it was spelt out for you."

A fair list, but there are some MASSIVE examples that didn't make this list.

SPOILER WARNING

Primary example - because it's so well known - is Bioshock 1's ending, but my personal title I'm surprised didn't make this list is Spec Ops: The Line. It was quite a morally hard-hitting twist that game had! Should play it twice over to really see the full picture of the twists (what's real, and what's not)!

EDIT: That RDR one though.. Oh my. Those feels! D:

There are just so many!!!

Yea, wow, the big revelation in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was enough to make a great game into a legendary one. That game had a better written plot than most of the movies.

At first I was like, No Code Veronica on the list!? But then I seen Mainline. The list checks out, but I would personally put 2 over 4.

KwietStorm_BLM1d 6h ago

I'll take 2 over 4 also. And even without a number, I don't see how Code Veronica, my other favorite in the franchise, isn't mainline when it's the actual sequel to RE2.

Rebel_Scum1d 9h ago

The original RE was the best. Its not on the list which makes no sense.

The remake of it was alright but should be higher on this list.

The original RE smokes VII and Village, come on.

More like people don't play these type of games on their phone normally and don't try them out. Not like the places where people do play these games haven't crushed those numbers easily.

How many people actually played more than an hour of the game or came close to finishing it on mobile is the real question. If people aren't playing the games to a point that is purposeful, then why try when a subscription that is behind a streaming service isn't a sign of success but just curiosity.

What if Netflix becomes ‘the Netflix of gaming?!’

Alek8342d ago

I downloaded it because I already have a Netflix sub.
I am not going to buy it for $40 or whatever it costs on Google Play.

I tried it out and will be sticking to the PC version, but it's not bad.

Having said that, this is the issues I see vs the PC version:
1. Greatly reduced texture resolution.
2. Massive downgrade ALL lighting quality (this includes water, shadows, etc).
3. Stutter and heat. Prolonged play leads to both.
On the plus side, we have:
4. This thing is like 6GB vs the 12 on Steam.

Great way to try the game, but not the best way to play it.

Perhaps Netflix will make a RDR series now that ST is done with.

Lionsguard43d ago

A Netflix version of RDR?... Oh boy... I can't wait... /s

They should build a production that includes members behind the True Grit remake and Hell on Wheels from AMC. Both were perfect for wild west vibes.

but i doubt people ACTUALLY played it on smartphone vs tried it out.
