If you played the Doom beta how did you guys enjoy your experience? Is this game a Day 1 purchase?

Sciurus_vulgaris3621d ago

I enjoyed the beta. However I found certain weapons and the demon to be imbalanced. I also feel the presence of loadouts detracts from the gameplay. This game is not a true arena shooter.

conanlifts3620d ago

I hit someone twice with a shot gun close range. Then they shot me with a rifle and i died. They need to fix the shotgun.

Paytaa3621d ago

I personally really enjoyed it. Played for like 3 hours straight on Saturday. Sure, I get the criticism about there being classes but in my opinion it didn't detract from gameplay. Most guns felt balanced but could be tweaked a bit.

It's not overly competitive but isn't too casual if that makes sense. It is a great homage to the classic arena shooters from generations ago but with a modern twist.

I'm getting the Limited Edition day one based on my time with the Alpha and Beta. If you have ever been a fan of Quake, UT, old Doom, and even old Halo then you'll most likely find yourself enjoying this game.

conanlifts3620d ago

It reminded me a lot of quake and unreal, more than it did doom.

It was pretty good but not what I was expecting. For me the announcer was annoying and some weapons were overpowered. As far as the PC is concerned it definitely needs optimizing. Which, I am sure they will do. In the end I know this was mostly a stress test in ways. One other thing I hated that there did not appear to be any type of server browser. Time will tell I guess. Either way I know the SP will be great and my purchase is already preordered on Steam.

SolidSystem3621d ago

which weapon specifically? I found them balanced

Poli_Games3621d ago

Maybe he is referring to the shotgun? But, even then i didn't find it much of a problem.

SolidSystem3621d ago

I think the shotgun is intentional, and its even some what balanced due to its effective range. you cant simply run around with a shot gun and win.

Sciurus_vulgaris3621d ago

The Vortex Rifle and Super shot gun were op in my opinion.

SolidSystem3621d ago

I never once had a problem with the vortex rifle, but perhaps I never ran into someone who could really use it.

I suppose the shotgun would be the closest thing to an OP weapon, but I never once felt I needed one to be doing well. I easily could handle people at a distance.

I also might be giving doom a pass with the super shot gun due to the nature of the single player aspect where it encourages you to get in peoples face and the shotgun seems like the obvious second gun for most load outs.

Looks like a solid game. Maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10; though I hardly give out 10s, so for the typical gamer it would possibly rate higher; but we shall see. COD and Halo 5 are solid 5 or 6 for me.

OutcastMosquito3620d ago

It was ok. I'd get bored with the full games multiplayer in a few days. Campaign on the other hand may prove this game tomorrow be worth full price.

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor81d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin80d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
