Where Ubisoft Needs to take the Far Cry Series Next

AusGamers has posted an opinion piece looking at where Ubisoft needs to take the Far Cry series next, after taking us into the past in Far Cry Primal.

Here's a snippet:

"A little while ago we wrote a feature asking Ubisoft to set the next Far Cry, after Far Cry 4, in Australia. It went gangbusters. It also resonated with people because we questioned a few design pitfalls the series had been repeating for far too long. Obviously the next game wasn’t set in Australia, though boldly Ubisoft chose to take us into the Stone Age where we would learn to master ancient beasts such as Sabretooth Cats, Wooly Mammoths, Lions, Tigers and Bears… oh my.

Some of those design pitfalls were still front and centre in Far Cry Primal, but as I discussed in our review, they worked more fluidly because of the context of the game -- the main character, the world itself, the progression and crafting systems and so on. But having devolved the series -- in aesthetic -- the question now arises as to...

It's only a matter of time until we get Far Cry...IN SPACE!

Gridknac3716d ago

No doubt! Your ship gets sucked into a black hole and you are warped to uncharted space. The black hole caused a system malfunction and you crash land on a mysterious planet. Alone on this hostile planet you must learn to survive against enemies and wildlife no human has seen before. With the end game being to get off of the planet and back home.

With this premise developers imaginations could run wild. Crazy and deadly plant life ( like man eating plants!), wild animals like you have never seen before, and alien inhabitants would all shake up the Far Cry mix.

I'd like a twist where you find out your back on earth 20,000 years after the human population has left not just our planet, but our galaxy all together. Almost like the terrible movie with Will Smith "after earth"..

I love what they did with Blood Dragon. As long as they maintain that same creativity we should be alright!

Wouldn't be surprised if it's indeed set in space with a Riddick + Alien feel. Sci-fi is booming

I would love to be stranded on an alien land, it will give them freedom to whatever they want. Something like the jungle from Avatar could world too.

The Next Far Cry for me should be set in space. A mars type environment/Doom. Exploration. Ubi could pull it off.

Give the series a year or two break. We don't want it rammed down our throats ALA Assassins Creed.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
