If there are reports of kids throwing up, being distorted or harming themselves it won't be good for the longevity of VR

Pandamobile3760d ago

Kids throw up in cars too.

Kids under 13 shouldn't use VR anyway.

NukaCola3759d ago

Like how kids under 8 shouldn't use the 3DS in 3D mode. I am sure for developing eyes, it can be a bit disorientating.

Death3759d ago

No way would I let a young child use VR. With our brains developing so rapidly when we are young, introducing something that can distort or damage a developing mind would be incredibly irresponsible. We have no idea what the long term effects are to prolonged exposure to VR in adults will even be.

PSVR (anyway) recommends 12+ which seems fine but like the point about the 3DS, hardware manufactures can't make you a good parent.

I let mine use it a tiny amount in a controlled way while monitoring their experience. No way I'd let them use it unwatched.

Their IPD is off until they're at least 10 or above, the headsets need to be smaller to totally avoid stuff like eyestrain, so you have to be v careful with it. On the other hand some awesome kid friendly content exists..

Those warnings are based off years of other products receiving such warnings. Take 3D for example, it's not suitable for children as their eye development isn't fully complete, meaning the effect could impair their eye sight down the line. VR isn't much different in that regard.

We won't know until 20 years from now. Like NFL concussions.

ShadowKnight3759d ago

You think it would cause CTE? That sucks since my oculus rift just arrived this morning.

dennigo3759d ago

i think the smart ones knew about NFL concussions.

Let's take multiple hard hits to the head during our career, what could go wrong....

Coach says i can do stuff and read good

I hate to say it but once VR is out in the wild to millions of people the few cases of dizzyness and seizures will be blown out of proportion, and VR will whither and die.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2194d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
