Oculus Rift and PSVR already had strong sellouts. Oculus Rift games are already getting perfect scores. Its too late for a article like this. The answer is no.

VR is doomed to fail because its still too soon, the tecnology is impressive but the more they change they stay the same...Sony will stop the VR exclusives in a couple of years.

Lol. What is doomed is not the VR, lol. That something that all gamers dreamed. The question is this the right moment? Well, the hype is big, we got plenty of good experiences and the price is good.

People have been complaining how games are all the same and games dont offer a new way to play, yadda yadda yadda well now all that and more is here and the demand has been great! VR is not only changing the way we play but how games and gameplay are constructed for these new vr games so there you go, enjoy.

I don't think it's doomed to fail. Even if it has a slow start, this is just the beginning of this big emergence of VR. Give it a few iterations, and I could see it being the standard in the future.

So is this the year of VR? No, but that doesn't mean it won't be in a few more.

I just can't see very many pros in this gimmick there calling VR. I mean, could you imagine your buddy trying to watch you play VR beside you? People barley have the patients now to watch someone game in the same room. Let alone someone that's wearing a VR headset, now your friends can't even see anything going on.

Has anyone played at an Arcade before where you sit in a car to race in a racing game? I feel like that's all I'm getting with VR. Something that's been out for over 20 years with a good bit of polish.

Wii.......Kinect.......VR

History will repeat itself just like before. It will be big at first and then I think its just going to get forgotten in the long run, especially at that price tag. Before you tell me I'm wrong, I wasn't wrong with Kinect and I wasn't with Wii either. Gimmicks.

Like sales are so bad for consoles right now they act like they are hurting when really profits are as high as they have ever been and think we need a change in direction in the industry?????? That's what makes VR a gimmick.

When are they gonna learn we just want to sit on a couch, wireless controller in our hand, watching a TV screen. Not jumping around, not talking into a camera to give commands.

On top of everything else I don't think the price tag is going down anytime soon. You know how much it is to build a spanking gaming PC these days? I hit $2500 and I never even factored in a monitor/tv yet. Oh and now I have to buy a $600 plus VR headset...........

The PS4 version of the VR is the cheapest I think, but isn't it the weakest as well when it comes to specs?

Am not running out to buy one just yet , but its going to need great games and content for it to be a hit . Will just have to wait and see how developers respond and what kind of commitment they are willing to show .

Believe. I tried Gear VR and thought Meh with screen door effect and blurry images - then I tried a demo of Terraria (think that's what it was called) and thought - this is it. Increments of better visuals and textures on a 2D screen don't compare - just bought a Sony 4K 55" about a month ago and I'm still waiting obsessively for that Vive to be delivered.

What is hilarious to me are the doubters who haven't even tried it. Try it and believe, you will.

You just need to try VR in person to understand that VR is here to stay.

This is not a 1 company push. The whole industry is pushing towards VR.

I think it will have its place in gaming and its own audience, but I definitely don't think it will be for everybody.

You're a fool if you think we are going to game in front of a TV or monitor for ever.

For those companies that put in large amount of money into it, I hope not. That can be a major blow to them if VR end up being nothing more than a more expensive Fad like motion control.

Having said that, I'll do my part to support Sony and will get the PSVR at launch.

Id have to try it myself I'm not really sold on it but even if I was I probably wouldn't rush out and get one.

In its current format it's just a fancy way of moving the camera around, there's not enough immersiveness for it to be called true VR, you need to be able to physically walk or run around VR environment and have a body suit that reacts to the world your exploring, you want to feel like your somewhere else and not that your eyes are encased in a TV screen.

But saying all that, these are the first steps that need to be taken. Some aspects of the hololens offer some great VR possibilities. I would like to see a mix of both technologies.

Why are people so bent on something to fail?

in terms of technology, we must allow it to evolve. And as far as VR, back with Nintendo with their VR was more of a test drive, and at that time, we didn't had the technology on the market.

But now, we have some of that limited technology, and as it goes, it's being used for other things, like Hoverboards, VR, AR, and whatever futuristic stuff...

It's the ultimate gimmick

Not doomed to fail as time goes by the prototypes will get bigger and better but in 2016 it's definitely a gimmick and the hype will die once people get bored of it.

VR with a form of control is very much going to be a future of gaming.

I'm not trying to be biased in anyway but I'm sure most of these early adopters are people who either have the money and live single lives, have wealthy incomes and families, etc. I don't care about you at all. That's cool that you want to buy it and support it.

As for the rest of us gamers who work pay check to pay check just to feed our families or pay down our school loan we don't have the luxury of just dishing out $600.00 to $800.00 for a piece of technology that will revolutionize the way we play games or view movies or watch porn lol. We have responsibilities in life. Not saying you don't. We just gotta work with what we have.

The underlying fact is, is that we can't afford and contrary to what you believe most gamers are actually living below the middle class section with low income. So at the end of the day they're just telling you that it might fail because they're is not enough being bought because it's too expensive.

Now I tend to agree with them because of this reason. For many years gamers were stuck with tube tv's instead of LCD's. It was two expensive so that's why Sony released the standard definition cord for the release of the PS3. Only after five years did the consumer start switching to LCD when the prices dropped significantly and then even more. Then LED came out and it was even more expensive but provided crisp and clear 1080p 3D. Sony and other companies tried to market 3D like it was in the cinemas. Again the price for one of those tv's were outrageous at the beginn and took 4 years to come down in price. By then 3D fell flat on its face and it became a gimmic that never saw the light of day.

Now we're seeing it with 4K tv's and how much they cost. It's really expensive and not everyone can dish out $1200 dollars or more for a tv like that to play games at a higher resolution. It will take at least five years for the cost to be efficient enough for people to even consider it. 4K movies are hardly been released by companies because they know it's a waste of time right now because there's not enough consumer base at the moment. Waste of money.

Now your talking about VR which has endless possibilities. Okay great. That's awesome I support creativity and innovation but your all missing the point in all this. It's going to take five or more years to see that user base start to grow and see the technology develop. Your going to have consumers on the fence the entire time to see if it flops. Most importantly the first two years will play a vital role for the success of VR. No different than any new product release for the first time in history. Will it fail? Or will it succeed?

I see it from a different prespective than most people and I can say that it will fall short of success unless the sell at a loss after year one. Just saying if you keep this price for two to three years it's game over. Because at that point were already looking at buying our next generation console and saving up for it. What do I buy a VR or a PS5. We're obviously buying a PS5. So again unless you lead a responsibility free life or leave wealth then this will always remain cliche market, which almost spells disaster.

You're an idiot if you think virtual reality is a fad. Everyone on Earth got a Wii at first because it was something they've never done before. Virtual reality is Wii times one million.

It might be cool for a while but then you'll be like "man, I'm not wearing that thing for two hours anymore".

Let's be honest, if Sony weren't entering the VR market, most of you would say VR will fail. I think it will be around for a few years but will not become a permanent fixture in gaming.

These comparisons to Wii are silly. That was based on a control type that had massive success - everybody loved Wii Sports, even your dog. If it had the power, precision and VR at that time - you would have bought a PS4 on release that was a PSVR.

If you have no enthusiasm, and aren't grinning after your first proper VR experience you need to check your pulse - cos your already dead.
