We have yet to see any JAPANESE RPG that is both groundbreaking in terms of innovation, production values and quality, and also Sony doesn't just have "FPS" the way the first Xbox had. Not only that, but the main reasons to buy a 360 now are still shooters, namely Halo and Gears. On PS3 there are many games for different tastes, including heavenly sword, warhawk, resistance, motorstorm, uncharted, metal gear solid 4, folklore, ratchet and clank... if that is not diverse, then what is? I wish I could say the JRPGs for 360 are reasons to buy it, but they are underwhelming. If you only like JRPGs, you are probably better off still playing last gen RPGs as there were too many and most were better than the current 360 selection. You are better waiting for PS3 and Wii to get more time on the market than to see if Microsoft can keep buying mediocre timed exclusives.

How ignorant of the article writer anyway... it's not like you bought the PS2 "for RPGs", you bought the PS2 for variety. If you only liked FPS though, the first Xbox was for you because there was not much variety on it. PS3 still has variety, the same way PS2 had, except the most lacking genre right now is the RPG genre. THe reason the distinction between Sony and Microsoft was RPGs and FPS, was because the first Xbox was all about FPS, and had very few if any RPGs.

Well, Microsoft definantly paid to get some of those JRPG's that are on the system. It would make sense for a Japanese developer to release a JRPG on the PS3 because it would sell more anyways, and for Japanese developers to release a JRPG on the 360 and not the PS3 just lets me know that Microsoft more than likely had something to do with it.

White Knight Chronicles is a PS3 exclusive coming next year, The Last Remnant will most likely be released next year on the PS3 as well, and even though Final Fantasy XIII isn't a PS3 exclusive, it will sell more on the PS3 and move more PS3 units. I'm not sure if Final Fantasy Versus XIII will make a 2009 release, but if it does, it will be a worldwide release according to Square and that would be a PS3 exclusive. The way that I see it, 2009 is the PS3's year for JRPG's in general, but the amount of JRPG's on the Playstation platform has slowed... but other than FFXIII, I don't see too many JRPG's in the 360's future though.

Right now the PS3 is still at a much higher price and I'm not really too sure how many hardcore gamers with PS3's that aren't Japanese would actually buy JRPG's and I'm thinking that Sony probably has there own reason for not publishing a lot of their own JRPG's/RPG's right now.

Id defnitely take that one game over every rpg out on the 360 so far. Oblivion has been the only good RPG on that console and it runs better on PC and Ps3 anyhow.

I don't see what the hell happened with Sony's great RPG's.. Chrono Cross, FFVII-XII, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Lunar 2, the list goes on. It seems MS wanted Sony's Final Fantasy, and Sony wanted MS' Halo and it really shows this gen.. which is really too bad. The PS1 really got me into gaming with its fantastic RPG's, the stuff I could really sink my teeth into. I hope they buck up and realize we don't need more beaten-to-death-FPS's, but more expansive and story-driven experiences. Just give me my damn RPG's! (Although, a 360 price cut and Tales of Vesperia are looking pretty damn good about now..)

Actually, The PS3 is gaining support all around game developers since PS3 has been selling more than the 360 especially last year when the 360 blew its load last year. Now game companies is starting to recognize the potential of the PS3 for its power not just how much money it makes. Also, the 360 can never be in the position the PS2 since mostly 360 doesn't appeal to anyone anymore.

There isn't a flip flop here. Sony is concentrating on FPS due to multiplatform and a couple of exclusives but the 360 still does to this day. MS has focused on RPG along with FPS vs a flip flop. Doesn't matter if they paid for it or not it isn't our money. Just more options on one console for me as I have both though.

As it makes common sense that multi platform titles are inclined to sell more copies (200 million potential customers is better than 15) than exclusive.

And as for the gameplay, Ubi Montreal, Valve, Crytek and Treyarch have all had awesome games before.

Many PS fans said "360 is the FPS box" even though it does have a large FPS library, 64 at last count, but it's undeniable the 360 has taken the RPG as well.

WKC is my most wanted PS3 exclusive. But the FPS/Shooters do get room on the PS3. So does LBP and Heavy Rain, to pick the top of the crop. It is said before. PS braind is known for its diversity in gaming. I like that, and I don't think the PS3 will be branded a FPS/Shooter console.

Microsoft needs to innovate, create something unique, and do it themselves, recruit their own talent instead of buying games, timed exclusive games or content, or simply put, 1uping the competition. Microsoft needs new and better experiences, not just "better" ones that end up looking like rehashes. Sony might not have much on PS3 in terms of japanese support, at least not yet, but if WKC ends being better than all of the JRPGs on 360, it could mean trouble for 360 since japanese developers would follow suit. Not only that, but to say that the 360 is the "JRPG machine" of this generation is kind of hasty and ridiculous, considering neither the PS3 nor the Wii are even on their second year, not to mention that 360s offerings do not compare at all to previous JRPG consoles. JRPG fans are not really missing much new without a 360, and they are better off waiting without next-gen consoles and still playing last generation JRPGs (After all, who the hell has finished every single one of them anyway?).

Unlike Sony they generally focus on the games that are coming out in that year. To me that is a very good strategy I really don't want to hear about some game that is coming out Nov 2009, when Nov 2008 isn't even here yet! Sony has a habit of selling wolf tickets and their fanboys eat it up. Ive had my ps3 since the end of last year and all i see from sony fans with the little time I am on the boards is wait till.... wait till.... How about now! I mean seriously I understand their will always be delays. the thing that sucks this gen isnt that the ps3 and 360 switched places, its that we havent gotten a single AAA rpg on ANY console.The only 1 thats looking to be an amazing rpg is fallout 3-a multiplatform game (not surprising, seeing how its Bethesda...) and thats it. We still dont have any details on FF13/v13. We have to wait until march to know if FF13 will be AAA. the good thing is that both the 360 and ps3 are coming out with fantastic shooters-GeoW, kz2, cod5, R2, MAG....

That is why I bought one. I bought my 360 mainly for th multiplayer shooters that were a staple of the original xbox. I bought my PS3 for the single player rpg's and action adventure titles. So far the PS3 is behind in that aspect. Which is disappointing. Still I'm happy with both consoles. I just want some more rpg love for my PS3.

microsoft also tends to pay for timed exclusives.. bioshock for example

tales and others will also come to ps3 as well, not to mention last remnant

if you take patricks comment about ps3 exclusives that are now on 360, the same can be said for the reverse effect.. much of the "360 exclusives" are on the way to the ps3, rpg's included...

as for what tales did for the 360 in japan.. its not the first time and it wont be the last time there are spikes.. as for consoles being sold out.. some are saying its because the console is now popular especially due to tales, i say its only partially true.. depleting of current stock before a big shipment of the next console sku is also important.. that to me is the real reason its sold out.. it was sold out before on all regions for the same reason.. just like the ps3 80gb was sold out while they prepped the mgs4 80gb bundle

sacred 2 was a 360 and pc only game and now its getting its own from the ground up not a port to the ps3..

critirion and lucas arts are also now doing ps3 as the lead console for development

They both switched roles just for the fact that for some bizarre reason, nearly every AAA game has to include mass violence, screaming at other people in the globe for no apparent reason with guns and don't give anything else that's different a look in.

Before you disagree; I can't mentally or physically play RPGs because they're just TOO demanding, repetitive and are like managing a little football team these days.
Whilst I occasionally like killing AI with a cohesive storyline and randomly shooting people with insane weapons and dealing virtual pain gaming on FPS.

LO is good because of the 1000 dreams stories. It really help you connect with the characters in the game. Read It. It is better to read than making it into movie. Use your imagination. Since when a movie is better than a book.

Furthermore, LO is different from other FF series due to a more mature content.

No Summon, while it is good, but i don't want to see it over and over and over and.........over and over.......the same thing for 40 hours plus. It get boring after a while.

The RPGs that are being released don't have that much quality that you should throw away your Nintendo consoles over. It has been said that the PlayStation 3 will have more exclusive RPGs than the XBOX 360. For the most part it seems like most of the for the main time will be in Japan first or only in Japan.

It's like you guys sit there and press f5 all day to try to find ANYTHING you can flame a console about. Yea, that's really intelligent. But hey, go ahead and flame me about this and try to act like your opinion isn't biased.

When this will not be the case...the game was designed to be on the PS3...it will be ported to the Xbox 360 after the PS3 version is done. Both versions will not be the same. This game will be better on the PS3...the xbox 360 version is being made because square can get some money by selling it on the xbox 360...the xbox 360 version of FF13 will not be sold in Japan...FF13 will sell lots of PS3 consoles...FF13 versus is a PS3 exclusive...and White Knight chronicles is comming to the PS3 early 2009...japan first...and this game could be really good and probably better than any current Xbox 360 RPG...

Microsoft listened to many users complaints that there were too many fps and racers on the 360.

Plain and simple the 360 just has the better games in all the genres. That's why their is no reason to pick up a ps3 yet. Western RPG's and jrpg's reign surpreme on the 360 while the ps3 still is lacking. Fps's and shooters are still the best on the 360 with monster franchises like Halo and Gears. The 360 also has the best racers in Forza, Racer Pro, and PGR. The only thing the ps3 has the 360 beat is the genre of "creating your own personal doll and levels and playing with it."

I think it might seem that way but the 360 has no where near the popularity the PS2 had when they had RPGs so it doesn't really matter.
PS3 still has Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXIII Versus, FFXIII (demo/bundle), Monster Hunter 3, etc. as exclusive RPGs so you really can't say one is stronger or better than the other.
360 is mostly shooter games none the less but Sony in my opinion has better shooters.
Still only one RPG so well in Japan on the 360 and that was Tales of Vesperia and that died after 1 week.
Japan doesn't like the Xbox period it might sell well for 1 week and that's it while the other RPGs on Sony and Nintendo go on to sell for months.
The PS3 has the most to look forward to this year, next year, and the following year after that.
Most of the 360 exclusives have flopped so far w/ the hope Gears of War 2 can save the 360 but even then that'll eventually to the PC w/ better graphics and exclusive content so then your screwed once again.
Every single 360 exclusive is coming to the PC so why get an Xbox when you can just play it on your PC.
It's a sad thing this year for the 360.

360 home Too Flop, Alan Wait,Red Ring,Worst 1st party support, only good multiplat games that also on the PS3,the dead HD DVD, and Red Ring of Death. Sorry I said that twice oh wait I aint sorry because anytime they play a game they get that sign that this system sucks.
