E3 is Evolving, Not Dying

Brendan Writes: The gaming industry is only a few months away from this year’s E3 Expo, and several major brands are deciding it makes more sense to skip the show floor this year. Electronic Arts was the first major player to pull out, opting for a separate event that that will run alongside the expo called EA Play, rather than having a floor presence.

E3 is going to be awesome this year.

So much good video game info going to be released.

I'm excited for it all...even the PS4 stuff and I don't even own a PS4.

I'm most excited for the NX reveal, a new 3D mario game and getting to see more of the new Legend of Zelda game & Mass Effect + Dragon Quest 11.

Last E3 was the best E3 in years. Can't wait for this years

DigitalRaptor3731d ago (Edited 3731d ago )

It was pretty unbelievable, especially the trifecta.

I sometimes revisit threads to see great posts like this: https://www.neogaf.com/foru...

The feelings experienced last June, I don't think can be replicated. It's strange to think that it's been almost 12 months from the moment we were celebrating the rebirth of Shenmue after 14 years.

Moral of the story is if you feel the need to write one of these articles then you've just disproved your own point.

bfrye263731d ago

I agree, the writing is on the wall that there are issues. If you read the article. I outline that the show as it is will face troubles, but the spectacle and announcements will continue. E3 in another form as it is.

Swiggins3731d ago

Dude, that's the shoddiest argument I've ever seen.

The same types of articles have been written about.

The Internet
US Military Prevalence
Television
Comic Books
Personal Computers
Videogames in general...

All of which were proven right in the long run.

Last years E3 seemed alive and well.

Disney Should Buy Fortnite And Epic Games, Former Exec Says

The Walt Disney Company's new CEO, Josh D'Amaro, is a big fan of video games, and one former Disney executive believes D'Amaro would be smart to do even more in gaming going forward. This could include a buyout of a gaming company like Epic Games.

In an interview with CNBC, Kevin Mayer--a former Disney and TikTok executive who now runs Candle Media--said D'Amaro will need to take "bold steps" to help Disney make more money and grow its stock price. One part of this could be doing more in gaming, he said.

Apparently nobody remembers the absolute shitshow that happened when EA brought the Havok engine which was used as the default engine of the 6th generation like UE is used today.

SkilledGamer76d ago

You've got it wrong, EA bought Renderware not Havok. Havok was bought by Intel in 2007 and then Microsoft in 2015

Fishy Fingers76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

Nor was it ever a widely used or considered, game engine, Renderware was. It was and still is a physics/material simulation plugin for the actual game engines.

Profchaos76d ago

Yeah you're right i was thinking of Renderware. But point still stands Renderware was used literally everywhere from games like GTA 3,VC,SA to Sonic games and Tony hawk it was really the default industry wide engine that UE is today.

If Disney takes over Epic and UE we could face a situation where they change the terms of use for other game devs big and small. They could remove the licensing agreements currently in place and impose a payment per download model like Unity did which could cripple the industry.

Fck Disney stock and their shareholders.

blacktiger76d ago

rlow176d ago

I really hope this doesn’t happen. They ruin everything that they buy. Terrible company

Zerobalance76d ago (Edited 76d ago )

Trolling. Hope Disney take the Maval characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine away from Sony and make it themselves that would me laugh so hard.

When logic meets EA it generates anti-matter ..... so try not to apply it in any meaningful way. Entropy is what matters in there !!
