Being Grateful

Are games becoming more of an investment than an actual purchase these days? Too often have people paid £40 for a game that is so devoid of content that it’s actually insulting and all they get is a “more will come soon”.

I dont understand how you play a game if you go through Halo 5 in five hours...

I've spent more than 12 hours and I havent seen the end yet. But I like a challenge and I play on legendary with my friend. That way you get to really appriciate all the details. If you WANT to run through a game, you may do just that, but why complain after? Its like fastforwarding a movie.

But I guess we're all different.

And also - the multiplayer-part of this game is flawless. I've never experienced such good servers on a consolegame before. Never had an issue with lag and I always seem to get matched with someone to play versus in a matter of seconds.

There are games I'd like to complain about regarding its lenght and the multiplayer, but this game is not one of them....

Paytaa3627d ago

I'm usually quick to defend Halo in general but the problem is, it would take someone who isn't familiar with Halo to take longer in any other Halo, maybe aside from ODST, to beat versus Halo 5. Halo 5 was really short. I beat it on Heroic solo in 6 hours my first playthrough. This is also the first time that I have a hard time revisiting a Halo campaign. It just wasn't a good campaign by Halo's standards.

Multiplayer on the other hand I'll agree with. The multiplayer is almost perfect in my opinion even if I prefer old school Halo gameplay.

spicelicka3627d ago (Edited 3627d ago )

Halo 5 is literally the worst example anyone could give. I would like to make some arguments to the author.

Firstly, the campaign was NOT 5 hours. It took me 7-8 hours on Heroic and I've been playing Halo for over 10 years. There's a lot of areas where you can just run past the enemies, which I'm sure is what players did, but that defeats the purpose. It's like doing a speedrun and determining that as the length of the game. It was shorter than I was hoping sure, but it wasn't 5 hours.

Secondly, you also realize literally all of Halo Reach's multiplayer maps were taken straight from the campaign right? It was a great campaign, no denying, but one of the biggest piss-offs for me was playing multiplayer first, getting familiar with all the maps, and then finding all those maps in the campaign. There was no sense of discovery left. This means less work done because the maps were basically reused from campaign in multiplayer and firefight.

Thirdly, you didn't consider Halo 5's multiplayer. All the modes they've added, all the free DLC they've given, and how massive forge is.

Honestly, your argument would make sense when comparing Halo 5 to past Halo games, because Halo has always been known to deliver a tonn of content, and you can make the case that Halo 5 didn't quite live up to what past Halos have given, namely Halo 3.

BUT I don't understand why you chose Halo 5 for this particular argument? Literally every game nowadays has barely any content. Why did you not bring up Rainbow six? a multiplayer only $60 title. What about Evolve? There are so many more examples. Halo 5 is the one game that gave us a full 4 player co-op campaign, stellar multiplayer mode, a 12v12 warzone mode with PvPvE, a theater mode, a custom games mode, the ability to create maps via forge (with ridiculous options), and monthly free content. I think that's one of the best value for money you could get. There is literally no other game with such a broad range of content.

JackMania3627d ago

"There is literally no other game with such a broad range of content." I've never heard such bullshit in my entire life.
Halo 5 has a miserable amount of content even today, I agree with the Rainbow 6 point and Reach's maps were taken from the campaign but at least they were memorable. I can't name a single map from 5 except from Orion and only because it was so shit it had to be removed.
If Halo 5 had any other name on it it would be forgotten like Titanfall and Evolve but there are people like you who lick 343's balls over shit games like this that have no right to have the Halo name attached to it.

CoNn3r_B3627d ago

Calm down dude, there are ways to get your point across without swearing at people and insulting them.

spicelicka3627d ago (Edited 3627d ago )

Yea that's why many claim it to be the best Halo multiplayer to date, and one of the best multiplayer shooters out there. That's why it revived Halo eSports right?

Overgrowth is a great map, Truth is a great map, Riptide is a great map. The quality is arguable, and the fact that they used Forge maps for BTB is something I've criticized ever since release. I've also criticized 343 for the way they handled the story, many many times, so no i don't like to "lick 343's balls".

For all the negatives there are a ton of positives. The gameplay is butter smooth, it's a perfect balance between new and old, the movement and abilities feel solid, and the shooting is brilliant. They've brought back arena, they've brought back even starts, gotten rid of killstreaks and loadouts, and are bringing back Warzone firefight for free, with 8 players.

It would not have any other name to it, it's Halo and it plays like Halo.

Halo art director leaves studio after 17 years with ominous message alluding to discontent

Glenn Israel writes: "As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe. There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year. In the meantime, I have a message for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.

I know that the state of our industry seems dire, but never forget that you are *free to choose*. No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values - and no one can force you to. Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong."

My god.
There's a story for next year.

VenomUK138d ago

I’m really disappointed to learn there are still people/morale problems. I thought the whole point of rebranding 343i to Halo Studios was to signal that real changes had been made - not to cynically rebrand to paper over the problems.

I really hope the Halo CE remake is great and gets people hyped for the future of the series.

DarXyde138d ago

It's inevitable with the modern landscape. Even if some issues have been assuaged, new ones crop up all the time.

I'm willing to bet AI and the lack of regulation is causing substantial upset.

shinXseijuro138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

He said something very marking . We tend to complain a lot about the industry but deep down I realize that we never have we been offered this crazy amount of games all available for you to play now . You can literally play any sorts of games in 2025 . Nobody is forcing you to buy the latest COD or the latest BF . You’re more of a 8 bit cozy gaming guy there’s a whole niche of modern games for that . You like micromanaging there’s games for that . I feel like we have been spoiled so much we just stopped being realistic and thinking for ourselves . We follow trends cry about stuff online when you are the buyer you have the power .

Notellin138d ago

I'm not buying any games until another Immersive sim is made.

PhillyDonJawn138d ago

....wth happened over there?
Does this confirm a new Halo by next year?
What did they want him to do that made him feel it was morally wrong or a insult to his integrity?

-Foxtrot138d ago

Well how about that, a name change doesn’t fix internal issues

Who would have thought

There were reports that Halo 4 and Halo 5 had similar sales to Halo: Reach years ago. The clickbait websites and rage bait YouTubers from 2012-2016 just wanted to spread excessive negativity about the franchise for their own benefit.

VenomUK228d ago

What did Halo: Infinite sell?

Sciurus_vulgaris228d ago

I don’t know. However, I would assume around 10 million. All the Halo FPS titles have done around 10 million sales, except ODST. Halo 3, was reported to exceed 14 million copies. I still remember back in 2007-2008, Halo 3 and COD 4 would duke it out for the most played XBL game.

MrNinosan227d ago

@Sciurus

There is NO WAY Infinite sold 10 million. Wake up dude.
Once upon a time, there was gamers on the Xbox side who actually bought games. Those times are since long gone.

Infinite has most likely not even hit 5 million sales

slate91228d ago

Nearly 10 million units and killing the brand is crazy work. Nicely done.

peppeaccardo227d ago

This New: Putting chocolate chips on top of a freshly made dog turd .....

1Victor228d ago

So let me get this straight in almost 13 years both games sold a combined 10 millions units.
Now I’m not going to use the obscured mentality and compared it to the amount of consoles sold and say it’s a failure 🤷🏿

thesoftware730228d ago (Edited 228d ago )

1Victor,

Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, reached nearly 10 million units worldwide "each."

Read it again, there is a word in there that clears up your misunderstanding.

@thesoftware720
I apologize I skimmed through the article and the headline blinded me and stuck in my mind thank you for the correction 👍👍

Halo 4 is the best multiplayer ever! It’s even better than Titanfall 2. I admit Halo 4 got CoDified but there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other games sometimes and halo 4 did it sooooo well with that speed boost plus sword combo and SAW plus damage booth combo, holy guacamole 🥑

Some crucial improvements to halo 4 could’ve been to boost the power of the AA sentinel, and whenever matchmaking pits people against each other with an armor abilities turned off completely then the map needs to routinely spawn, plentiful, predictable, power weapons. Also, all frame rate drops are unacceptable for a halo game during split-split screen or couch co-op. Just dynamically scale the resolution of the game down but whatever happens don’t let the framer dip in a Halo game for the love of all that is holy and good!

My personal gameplay of getting 30 kills in a 4 v. 4 game of team slayer up to 60.
