I am on the fence between the Rift and the Vive, kind of leaning towards the Rift though do to price and some of the games for it.

amiga-man3718d ago

For me it's easy, I don't own a PC, I do own a PS4 and the camera and two Move controllers, this is the first stage for VR and PSVR will be perfect for getting my VR feet wet.

wakeNbake3718d ago

I went with the Rift because it has alot more support on launch than the Vive, and optical sensors actually have more potential than laser trackers.

Ricegum3718d ago

I own a PC powerful enough to use Oculus but I'm definitely going for Sony's PSVR since it's not really much weaker hardware, it's much cheaper price and the software support for it is pretty huge compared to the others.

Psychotica3718d ago

It's not much cheaper when you consider you have to buy a camera too. It also doesn't track walking movement like the Rift or Vive. That said you will probably just as happy..

@Psychotica

The PSVR tracks movement in a similar way as the Rift.

PSVR will be capable of some pretty nice VR games, but if we're being honest there's no doubt that the PC will be able to achieve higher framerates at a higher level of visual fidelity for VR.

For example, the PS4 typically runs most graphically demanding current-gen games at 30fps, while a good gaming PC can run those games at 60fps or higher. And more powerful PC hardware will continue to come out at a steady pace.

The long and short of it is, the PC will be able to run the more graphically advanced games at the 60fps+ that VR requires. It will also be able to utilize higher resolutions and higher levels of anti-aliasing, which will help give the VR environments more clarity and solidity, leading to greater believability and immersion.

As for games, the PC sees a huge number of exclusives released for it each year. It also shares a lot of exclusives with either the PS4 or Xbox One. The PC isn't remotely close to hurting on games. Honestly, there's no other single platform where you can play the breadth of games the PC offers.

I think VR games will largely mirror that. Most VR games will be multiplatform. The Rift will get some exclusives from Oculus and others due to the PC's open nature as a platform, while Sony will syphon off some of their first party studios to work on VR projects.

I do think the Rift and Vive will offer superior VR (especially over the long term), but they dang well should since they're more expensive VR solutions running on more powerful hardware. What PSVR is offering for the price is nice and it will certainly appeal to a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise get to experience VR this year.

Yeah, I think the Vive is really great, but it's coming out a little later, doesn't seem to have as much support so far, and I don't really have a room to take full advantage of the laser-tracking and walking around type experience. It's also a little more expensive.

I'm getting the Oculus Rift first, but I'll probably get PSVR at some point, and maybe even the Vive.

Im getting the oculus first because That is where the racing sims I play are supported.I'll get PSVR as soon as Gran Turismo VR drops.

Im going to try and reserve a PSVR since i own the camera and all the other stuff already just to ensure i can get one... I want to see some more game announcements though.. Im not handing over $400+ and have nothing good to play right away.. Demos arent going to cut it

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2141d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
