Hey gang i want to know, what do you think about PlayStation VR? Do you think its going to be a hit? Or do you think this is Kinect all over again? Let me know!

Bathyj3716d ago

Its nothing like Kinect because this can actually be good for games. Kinect never was. Whether it will take off or not, I dont know but I think its now or never for VR in general, not just PSVR, and this is the best shot its ever had in my lifetime.

I don't think it's going to be anything like the gimmick kinect is, but the jury is still out for me until I see it in practical use. For some situations I think it will be amazing, like racing games for example. GT with PSVR and a steering wheel is going to be absolutely mind boggling. But I'm still not sure how well it will work with other games like shooters for example. That heist game in the promotional video didn't impress me one bit.

Oh God lets not make it another Kinect all over again.

VR has always been imagined as the penultimate stage for gaming immersion. The thing is, I expect the visual quality to suffer a lot on the PS4's VR titles but still, if this works well then the next gen consoles will have even better VR powered titles.

Yetter3716d ago

well I do find this more appealing than kinect its also more expensive, and everything Sony has shown off has been small bite sized games that are 10-15 min. I do worry that Sony is going to pour to much talent into making games for this device as opposed to concentrating on core AAA experiences

Nothing wrong with kinect, its a great camera, its just that Microsoft went about it the wrong way..if they would have put a physical control with kinect right from the start it would have turned out completely different.

Example is if you notice

PlayStation VR
Vive
OculusRift

All three use cameras + motion control wands. The reason why, is because Dr. Marks and his team found out over the years for development with the eyetoy. A camera need's tactile feed back of a physical controller to complete the immersion into a game, back in 2004 SIGGRAPH Dr. Marks showed off primesense camera 3D depth camera with the PS2 testing out time of flight functionality. The point is Dr. marks used AR back in 2000 SIGGRAPH convention with a playstation move concept wand controller using a psinted sphere tracked by a external camera. The point was DR. Marks back than and his team knew the ground work for VR even than. Thus you can see the ps4 dual shock, the move controller and the playstation VR headset has LED multi color light to be tracked 360 degree's around the headset.

Combined with gyro, accelerometer and magnameter sensors is it any wonder the system works with the PS4 as it does?

With the fact the refresh rate is 120Hz per eye, Sony along with how the headset fits on your head and its weight, along with consumer that may have to wear Perscription glasses it works with such.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing21d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit21d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing21d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
