During a media event at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that there are over 230 developers currently working on PlayStation VR.

I see games and movies I'd like to watch in virtual reality. At that amount of time I'm planning using it is the point it is no longer a gimmick.

By that reasoning, the PS4 is a gimmick as well. Almost all consumer products would be a gimmick. My lettuce for my salads would sell on the gimmick of being tasty and crisp.

@playerchaos: How dare you? Wii motion controls were awesome. Kinect was awesome. Playstation Move was awesome. Sony HMD was awesome. Vita was awesome. Last gen 3D was awesome. Oculus is awesome. WiiU touch controller is awesome.
You just don't buy the hype, ummm, I mean, you just don't get it man.

well of course the ps4 is a gimmick so is the xbox one and wii u by definition. i'm tired of people that use gimmick to mean "a piece of tech that i dont like and so it should fail". at one point trigger buttons were gimmicks and so was the rumble function as well as many other common things that people take for granted that are part of their controller and console. no matter how you look at it VR is just as much of a gimmick as a controller with a screen in it and a camera to track your movements. personally i think until they work out some of the kinks in VR to ME it is more like 3DTVs than HDTVs.

@hay i'm not saying gimmicks are bad i'm just saying you cant say VR is gimmick free and say just because something has more support than other things doesn't mean its not a gimmick but the other options are gimmicks.

"Super lice" have been in the news lately so hopefully the demo stations have wipes that get rid of them. I remembered this because I thought Gamestop might let you try PSVR, and the last time I was there it smelled like someone had loaded their pants with poop.

Which is kind of depressing. We'll have been playing No Man's Sky with the Vive/Rift for months by the time PSVR comes out.

Whether it's supported by Hello Games or not, we'll be playing No Man's Sky in VR.

It seems like Sony could temporarily block certain games from using PSVR so that the bad press from an overhyped game doesn't effect PSVR sales when it's trying to get off to a good start. My Pachteresque prediction is that no PSVR support (if true) for NMS means it will be ok but not a great game. I'm still hoping for a PSVR version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance with Move support.

It's nice that Sony has 250 devs working. God knows they could use the work. Let's see how many of these are shovelware and how many of these are actually playable full fledged 100+ hour games.
Otherwise, they Tech demos.

Dont know about you, but Im not paying good money to experience jump scares in another dimension. Or play some gimmicky game for 2 hours. I want, what I always have had in a new way. Meaning something like Fallout, or The Witcher 3 brought to me in this new way that makes it an absolute most have.
I want to be sold in this new perspective. Not given the feeling of what its like to mountain climb. I dont care for it in real life, I dont care for it in gaming.
This was ultimately the failure of 3D. Its nice, but it doesn't add anything new to the experience and when its overemphasized it looks ridiculous.

Sorry to say it, but that's what you're gonna be paying for. That's what VR is going to be for a while. You're not going to get full fledged games in virtual reality. Rather, not a lot. Maybe one or two. The rest are going to be gimmicky mini games at best. This goes for ALL VR headsets.

Now for PSVR? They're releasing it on a system which will be discontinued how many years from now? Unless Sony is kind and makes it compatible with the Playstation 5, but by then better headsets will be available for cheaper.

A Hulk game too, bouncing off skyscrapers, throwing things with Move controllers. Superman, Spiderman, so many potentially great games. Even an indy "Rampage" style game with PSVR could be good.

I'd like a game set in the near future where most people have VR, then some evil government (or aliens, etc) use the VR to turn almost everyone into something like a zombie, only smarter.

Parents now days are different. There is no way my parents would have bought me that. They had a hard time justifying a video game, and when they bought me a PS2 at $150. Not saying this isn't cool, but who the hell is buying this stuff?

I feel like we are spending more, but getting less. We know nothing about the games that are supporting this. Absolutely nothing, there are people complaining about good exclusive games on the PS4 still. I see this selling, but just like Motion Controls people will lose interest.

Haven't we tried VR 100 times? It's always been a novelty. This is like the release of Avatar, everyone will jump on the (3D) bandwagon. The end result is a nice option that no one uses. Who the **** wants to wear the helmet (3D glasses)? No one.

We'll see though. I'm not against it I just refuse to buy it until I see game support. I'm all for running around virtual reality, I just don't know if this will bring us there and at $750 (with PS4) it would need to.
