Looking Back On Mass Effect 3 - Four Years On

FGE - I recall refreshing Bioware’s YouTube channel over and over, on the day of a new trailer release. I recall replaying Mass Effect 2 for the 12th or so time while waiting for the 3rd game to launch. And I recall the day I finally got my hands on the beautiful Collector’s Edition of Mass Effect 3 – for me, in the UK, that day was four years ago today.

Having seen every slice of pre-release material, I was prepared for Mass Effect 3 to be emotional. To be the darkest game in the trilogy. And yet, it was impossible to guess the lasting impact it would have on me, through its two main themes: tragedy and hope.

How to get the best ending:

1. Run to the portar
2. Kill Marauder shield
3. Kill the illusive man
4. After Anderson dies, turn off your console and imagine the rest

Optional. If you didn't do step 4, choose one of the 3 endings and turn off your console. Imagine the rest

I guess I'm part of the minority that thought the ending wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it, actually.

Actually... I enjoyed the original ending much more. The extended ending (the one Bioware patched in the game later) was too cheap to my liking. I think they should've stuck to their guns and kept the ending as it was originally.

Your not alone, I also enjoyed the original ending as well. I might go back and beat this great trilogy again since the wait for the new mass effect is getting painful lol.

I've already beaten ME1 and ME2 three times, twice for ME3.

Yet... if Bioware made a remastered collection for PS4 at 1080p / 60fps and no aliasing, I sure as hell would play it all over again.

Mass Effect is my absolute favorite third party franchise, bar none. I'm excited as hell for Mass Effect Andromeda, although we won't be seeing that one this year.

Yep, original ending was great as it was. Open ended, open to discussion, questions and theories.

The extended ending catered for the foolish masses that need everything told to them.

There's a reason why Bladerunner is held in such high regard with its ending and its because it leaves you with questions and uncertainty.

Exactly what I think. In my opinion, there was nothing wrong with the loose ends, and not knowing exactly what happened to everybody after. I mean, who cares? The galaxy was fucked anyway, with the destruction of the relays, which meant that they basically were set back thousands of years. In the end, the Reapers were gone (in different ways depending of the ending you chose), but they were no more, and that's what mattered.

I chose control... because to my understanding, Shepard only employed said control to tell the Reapers to go away in the original ending. In the extended ending... Shepard becomes a fucking Reaper... and the Reapers are still out there and help humanity and the various other races to rebuild the Galaxy.

In my opinion, that was stupid as fuck. Original ending was way better. :(

I didn't have a problem with the ending. It's certainly not what I would have chosen for such a great trilogy, but it certainly didn't offend me personally...I thought ME3 overall was a pretty great game, and a fitting cap to my favorite trilogy in gaming. I look forward to Mass Effect:Andromeda tremendously.

No wonder he liked ME3, he was 13 when he played it haha. I find it comical how he seems to have these great memories of the citadel in that game. For me it was horrible, just a few tiny areas with a bunch of motionless NPC. Even the examples he gave of the ambient conversations, if you walked up to those NPC they never even moved while the sound was playing. Real triple A development right there.

Mass Effect 2 was a better game. More memorable moments. Best thing about Mass Effect 3 was the House party DLC AND Ashley coming back. I wish all the crew from Mass effect 2 were available. Kasumi the DLC character should have been apart of the squad and a romantic interest. Also Day 1 DLC with Javeek was dumb should have been in the game from the jump

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast531d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine531d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast531d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman531d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast530d ago
