NES Emulator for PS3 released

From QJ.net:

"PlayStation3 homebrew seems to be picking up some tempo. A Japanese coder recently released a NES emulator for the console using BD-J. Aside from being an emulator, the program also acts as a filer that displays certain kinds of images (PNG, GIF, JPG)."

Hats off to this guy and all his hardwork, this is truly a break thru because of the complicated manor of the systems security. the sad thing is it's all for not when a new firmware comes out. I don't condone the stealing of games, but in this instance this guy has done something no one said was possible.

You should educate yourself about the thing before you write nonsense. This has nothing to do with hacking the system, much less the FW or even bypassing the Hypervisor - this is done via the PS3's Java capabilities.

If Sony released a "patch" to prohibit the use of BD-J, they would shoot themselves in the leg since that cripples features used by Bluray movies.

You're not really getting what he said.

He was meaning that Sony has really done what they could to squash even homebrew apps from being able to be played on their consoles (it's been well documented), so it is expected that they would pick up on this rather quickly and act upon it really quickly.

I know it sucks, but it's something that we've been getting used to.

Yeah, but no sound kinda kills the appeal of it for me. I can't imagine playing SMB without music, because I love the BGM. Still, cool to finally see something like that.

nbsmatambo6450d ago

this sorta makes me wanna see SMB on PS3 as an official game =/

DaTruth6450d ago

It needs in-game music from xmb.

Zerodin6451d ago

LOL!
So this is what the power of the PS3 can do?

Deviant6451d ago (Edited 6451d ago )

/agreed

at least the xbox is capable of burning stuff

Hawkeyes3156451d ago (Edited 6451d ago )

The xbox does burn things. It's a flaming homosexual console.

OmarJA6451d ago

chasuk086451d ago

The only thing xbox burns is its internal components and peoples houses

Hawkeyes3156451d ago

If only it had sound and the controls were a bit tighter. This would be the greatest additive to the ps3 yet. Maybe they can work on it some more??? Awesome stuff and gives hope to future projects.

THC CELL6451d ago

wow i wounder if its 1080p

Silogon6451d ago

Well it boots in 1080p, but I'm sure it's upscaled. Like your dvd's. I am using a 1080p with it right now and while it's cool, it's off. The controls and framerate are a tad choppy and the no music is really a killer. As I said, I hope they make adjustments to this cause this is pretty cool.
