Xbox One: Is This Microsoft’s Last Gaming Console?

Microsoft may be losing the console war against PlayStation 4, but it has big plans. During the recent Xbox Spring Showcase, Xbox chief Phil Spencer dropped a bombshell about the future of Xbox One. He said Microsoft is interested in offering hardware upgrades for the Xbox One that could bring about the end of console generations, at least for the Xbox platform

No. They've said as such too. They've also debunked the whole upgrade stuff for xbox one. If we're going to keep discussing this, can we at least discuss it with up to date info??

slate913774d ago

How else will they get all the clickz?!

4Sh0w3774d ago (Edited 3774d ago )

Yes, of course there will be another Xbox, even if all Xbox games went to pc (which they won't) because there will always be tons of Xbox fans, console lovers and casual gamers who will buy a console vs pc to play Xbox games.

I mean think about it pc has a big spec advantage with tons of console+pc game releases and a huge built in fanbase yet consoles games outsell pc games by a dominant margin consistently. Why is that? -Do you think Microsoft are going to walk away from that money, lol when they can have both?

mikeslemonade3774d ago

It's the last Xbox I will actually have bought. Next gen I'm PC, PS5, NX, and Nintendo handheld.

XMarkstheSpot3774d ago

Fully agree. Phil said he fully expects a new console all ready.

ninsigma3774d ago

It will be interesting to see their approach on a new console in the future. A lot of the original plans didn't go...well to plan so I wonder if they'll try to bring some of the dropped features. If they could implement the feature of putting in the disk once and then being able to play from then on without the disk without crazy DRM that would be really cool.

When you an aggregate site can accept practically any submission then this is what you get. Lots of idiots and amateurs trying their hand at analysis based on not only incomplete information, but poor reasoning.

Sciurus_vulgaris3774d ago

Misinformation on this site gets approved too often.

They also said that Quantum Break was a full Xbox One exclusive, that Kinect was vital to the XBO experience & couldn't be shut off, etc....are we really taking everything MS says to the bank?

I think MS will move towards a Steam Box style unit for the next Xbox, which is to say, basically still a console but slightly different, as it won't be the traditional style. That's best case scenario because the other option that was thrown about (by Spencer himself so if we are taking MS' word for gospel it needs to be considered) in regards to the annual upgrade cell phone model is a horrible one IMO. Better to have modular hardware than annual new releases, because computer hardware technology doesn't move at the same quick speed that mobile phone technology does.

Rob_Ko3774d ago

Well MS said many things that weren't true before, I wouldn't take it as proof

I suspect console with upgradeable hardware will be next gen from present.

Rookie_Monster3774d ago (Edited 3774d ago )

Yes it is. XBOX one will be like iPad...it will get upgrade every few years and all games will be forward/backward compatible. 'Xbox Mega' will be released soon and all games will be 1080p and locked 60fps while a 'Xbox Ultra' will be released when 4K graphic cards are cheaper and 4K TV adoption rate is standard. All Xbox games will be cross compatible and scale to meet each Xbox specification.

There will be no Xbox Two as Xbox now will live in infinite. Well planned MS with the Windows 10 initiative, Well planned.

kraenk123774d ago (Edited 3774d ago )

An just as with the iPad some 'Apps' just won't work anymore with the older versions at some point. I'm not sure if you were being serious but it f you were get a grip on reality.

donthate3774d ago

The idea is that vast majority of people would have moved onto the next generation already if the "app" is no longer supported on the old console.

slate913774d ago

Too soon. I think they will do that with the next iteration though.

rainslacker3774d ago

"XBOX one will be like iPad."

Hooray???

christocolus3774d ago

Sounds like the perfect name for the next Xbox.

jb2273774d ago

Spencer already shot your idea down Rookie, just a couple days ago he specifically said that there was no new Xbox hardware dropping anytime soon.

Maybe next gen, and I wouldn't doubt that it was in the works, but it ain't right around the corner like you seem to think.

sAVAge_bEaST3774d ago (Edited 3774d ago )

Well (back up) planned.

Well (back up) planned.

Maybe? probably not.
