Gears Of War Ultimate Edition Developer Working On Multi-GPU Support

The Coalition's Rod Fergusson has revealed on Twitter that they are working on multiple GPU support for Gears of War Ultimate Edition.

Lacking mGPU is a big failure for the windows store right now, but once Dx12 gets more established it's native mGPU support should elevate both SLI and Crossfire to much better support. If devs can be bothered with it. Fingers crossed.

To be fair, it's just not the store, hardly any new games are supporting SLI(look at Arkham Knight as a example), it's one of the reasons i traded up to a 980ti from my SLI 970's, i paid £300 for a second 970 and most of the time it just sat there ding knob all.

There has been a wave of games that haven't supported multi-card configs recently. Lots of temporally projected effects that are lighter on resource and great for consoles, but simply don't work with alternate frame rendering.

Dx12 is the first Dx that has native support for multi-GPU. So long as the likes of Unreal Engine and Unity adopt that, mGPU will get much better. So while the Windows store is off to a bad start, if they can nail this new way of implementing mGPU then things should improve a lot, including Dx12 games on other stores. That's my hope anyway, I'm on a watercooling kick at the moment and I love mGPU setups :)

980TI is definitely a stonking card though. I enjoyed mine before I broke it lol (but not actually lol at all, I'm devastated on the inside).

Why wasn't it there from the beginning?? Is this going to be the case for the near future that all the games coming to windows store are not going to support sli/crossfire from the get go??

In DX12, multiGPU must be programmed by the developers. It's no longer more automatically like SLI or Crossfire. In fact, the mGPU in DX12 allows you to remove the external GPU bridges since the communication is done via the PCIEx bus. This allows for much better mGPU performance without frame pacing issues, and it allows dissimilar GPUs to run mGPU. DX12 mGPU support is very powerful but it also requires explicit support and programming. The lack of mGPU has nothing to do with the Windows Store. The game must support it explicitly.

Ah ok so dx12 related not windows store. Thanks for clearing that up. Still I think it should have been implemented from the start though. Many users have such a setup so to not include it is a bit crazy imo.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit6d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing6d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster926d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
