Quantum Break will face "complications" when adding DLC say developers Remedy

Quantum Break currently has no DLC plans, but even if the studio decides to act on the many ideas they do have for future content, they'll face several "complications" Remedy's Thomas Puha has confirmed.

"Remedy has lots of ideas on the cutting room floor, but nothing concrete, there's no DLC plans in place, so lets see how people react to the game."

I'm fine with that. At least I know the game hasn't been preemptively chopped for DLC. Also, the game has to be good for it warrant DLC and as this is a new IP, their approach makes sense.

It's a shame that few developers and publishers feel the same. Most of the time, companies advertisements feel that they value the DLC more than the core game itself which immediately raises a red flag for me.

In another interview Sam said the game would have a clear cut ending. No cliffhangers or any of that stay tuned for part 2. The story will be properly wrapped up in QB.

It seems like MS and co (that is Remedy) is making all the right moves.

Halo 5?

Free map packs and all game content unlockable in game!

Backwards compatibility? Free!

Cross buy?

Yes, with Quantum Break on PC/Xbox!

DLC?

Nah, unless it is free and the game is complete package!

ScorpiusX3709d ago

I'll take Expansion story packs .

This answers a question poised today about getting more games of this mixed media type. Not very likely as the inherent difficulties are mostly logistical.

It seems fairly obvious that QB is a holdover from the original scrapped XBO vision. That vision obviously never came to fruition & for me that's all for the better. I think Remedy could potentially make something cool, but I honestly don't see how adding TV would elevate a game in any way. They are vastly different mediums & they should stay separated IMO. There's a level of immersion in gaming that is simply broken when you are asked to set your controller down for long periods of time. It's the same reason why I couldn't get into MGS4, seemed like a great game, but I set aside time for different types of experiences based off of what I want to do...if I want to watch tv then it is a hands off, non interactive experience, if I want to play a game then I want to control the majority of that experience, and there is a sweet spot even for short cutscenes...half hour tv shows involve a degree of planning that can be tricky for even the best of devs. I think QB will be a great game, but I honestly don't see the live action portion adding all that much aside from backstory....the meat of the experience will be on the controller.

Why would you not want something potentially revolutionary in gaming?

It is worth the risk, and because you can't see it doesn't mean others can't make a fantastic experience out of it. I hope this rocks, and that some other games follow this. I'm thinking Mass Effect with live action!? YES!!!!

I'm happy for your optimism don'thate but I can't picture a great theatrical and television release in this current entertainment climate for any series game related because

A) The project is usually given to Hollywood fatcats who are have no interest in being faithful to the source material and looking for a quick cash-in.

B) Those who are legitimately interested in the game itself are given a piss poor budget leading to terrible actors and even worse production value.

Mind you, the first Mortal Kombat and Silent Hill movies were decent so I believe a great game movie could be made but I have yet to see one where the stars fully aligned.

Defiance tried to do the same before Quantum Break and look what happened to that series (being on Syfy pretty doomed it from the start.) but maybe if Microsoft pushed Quantum Break for an HBO mini-series........

@donthate

"Why would you not want something potentially revolutionary in gaming? "

See that's my main issue, adding tv doesn't revolutionize gaming. Cross media stuff can be cool w/ meta marketing & AR type stuff, and I think it'd be great to supplement game stories w/ tv shows, but the nature of sliding it into the actual game itself just seems like it can only be a drawback to me. It eliminates choice & it dilutes both or either a quality gaming experience or a quality tv show. I just don't see them working together all that well.

Not trying to knock anyone else's potential enjoyment for this, I'm absolutely interested to see how it pans out and it is by no means a game breaking thing, at the very least because they are all skippable & I assume rewatchable if you miss something. The key will be in Remedy making sure that gamers who solely want to game won't be lost in the story for skipping it & it would also be cool if the shows themselves told a cohesive story that can be shown to people divorced from the game although I don't think that is meant to happen.

Either way the game looks great, that was just my two cents about the tv integration, it'll be an interesting experiment but I personally don't see the next step in gaming as being something that makes you put the controller down entirely.

What a AAA game is going to ship complete without microtransactions and DLC?

Excellent!

I really hope we don't see EA's "surprise mechanics"

Firebreak and now this…. They really are on a streak aren’t they!

Something clearly happened to this company after Alan Wake 2. That game was brilliant and was unjustly sabotaged by marketing and haters.

Unfortunately, it seems to have absolutely destroyed a company we all agreed was once one of the best. Well done people. Well done.

INMATEofARKHAM78d ago

I hate to seem them struggling but I'm not going to support them if they only release their games on the Epic store.

1nsomniac77d ago

Would you have supported them if they only released their game on Steam?
