Uncharted 4: Technical Preview

NX Gamer:

As we now approach the final straight I wanted to cover the main aspects of what we know of the game and how it looks to expand, improve and entertain in equal measure along with the obligatory impress throughout its campaign.

As long as everyone relizes 1080p 30fps is a downgrade from 1080p 60fps, we're all good here.

sizeofyou3752d ago

They never said it WOULD be 60fps. They said they'd target it. But it didn't make it for SP. I sure ain't holding it against them. Hardware limitation on platform. Certainly doesn't mean it will be a bad game. Me personally...huge fan of Uncharted but not getting swept up in the "best game ever" train before I play it. I'm fairly certain it will be at least a "good" or "very good" game though. Short time will tell...

esmittystud1013752d ago (Edited 3752d ago )

All I'm saying is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was 1080p 60fps and now with Uncharted 4 we are going back to 30fps like what it was on PS3. I never owned a PS3 so I don't know for the Uncharted series how well it sits. The only thing I have to compair it to is Rise of The Tomb Raider on Xbox One right now which is 30 fps. Which I don't mind playing in 30fps, I just don't prefer it.

I'm not saying its going to be a bad game by any means but I'm also like you and not hopping on the "best game ever" train. I'm just pointing out that the game is already getting praised graphically..........when its actually taking a step back from previous installments.

You have some players that know/feel the difference between 60 fps vs 30 fps, and then others that nor care or can't tell a differecne. I love 60fps in Uncharted. Its just going to be weird playing Nathan Drake in 30fps, thats all. Its going to be like playing Rise of The Tomb Raider on Xbox One, which isn't bad by any means, but not as good as 60fps.

This is actually my first game by Naughty Dog that ISN'T in 60 fps. LOL.

Also, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection might be my nicest looking PS4 game to date and I have a pile to contend with as well.

"All I'm saying is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was 1080p 60fps and now with Uncharted 4 we are going back to 30fps like what it was on PS3."

Stopped reading there.

If you don't know the fundamental differences between a remaster of a 10 year old console vs. the cutting edge bleeding edge technology of the new Uncharted then you shouldn't open your mouth on such subjects.

JohnWayne_3752d ago

Wrong!!! They never said it would be 60fps, naughty dog said single player would be 30 fps and multi-player would be 60fps. So there is no downgrade, so stop spreading false info, based on your opinion. so now that you know that, all should be OK under your troll bridge.

sizeofyou3752d ago (Edited 3752d ago )

John...esmitty was talking about the other Uncharted's by comparison. Not trolling across platform.
Easy easy... ;)

esmittystud1013752d ago (Edited 3752d ago )

@ JohnWayne_

WRONG WHAT??????

I'm saying its a downgrade form Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Thats it. Not what they showed a year ago on U4. Not what they showed two months ago on U4. Doesn't matter they never said. They are doing it. A DOWNGRADE FROM UNCHARTED: THE NATHAN DRAKE COLLECTION.

We all know that Naughty Dog said that single player was going to be 30 fps and multiplayer would be 60 fps.

So they have upgraded then? Taking the franchise from 1080p 60fps to 1080p 30fps?????

Okay, one more time now.

Uncharted: TNDC = 1080p 60fps
Uncharted 4: = 1080p 30fps

Just because you all don't want to hear it, doesn't make it not true. LOL.

JohnWayne_3752d ago

@ esittystud101

So I guess by your flawed logic, both halo 5 and gears of war 4 are both downgrade then because they run at lower resolutions then the remasters.

sizeofyou3752d ago

Not having played U4, I think it's a bit unfair to compare with a remaster of a game written for a lower spec machine. If there's twice the animations, twice the draw distance and twice the onscreen physics (rice from the shot bags?) compared to U3 remaster, I'd take that over fps in this type of game.
Do remember that there's every chance the PS5 may run a remastered U4 at 60 (or 120!) fps! ;)
Not looking for an argument - kinda took your initial comment in the wrong context anyway. Enjoy U4!!

esmittystud1013752d ago

Thank you. Someone is actually listening. I atleast can be thankful for that.

I do agree with you for the most part. There will be more items on screen and thats probably why the PS4 couldn't handle the 60fps.

The character movement is what I'm thinking is the biggest difference. When I play Uncharted: TNDC and then go to Rise of The Tomb Raider, its not night and day or anything. But you can tell a huge difference in character movement.

jb2273752d ago

Yeah it seemed pretty obvious to me that CD didn't update the character animations from the prior game at all really. The animations were pretty stiff looking from all of the footage I've seen (haven't had the chance to play it myself yet but I've seen a fair bit of final gameplay).

There is a lot going into UC4, NX Gamer here outlines that really well. I know you've had reservations about going back to 30fps for the franchise as you didn't play the originals on PS3 @30, but I think if you put it out of your head a bit you won't really notice much of a difference in terms of performance. I think the biggest framerate issue isn't 30 vs. 60, its stable vs. fluctuating. The only time I really ever notice rough gameplay is when frames are dropped or dip far below 30 down to the action on screen. The Uncharted series has never been guilty of that across all of its installments so I'm sure it'll be a silky smooth 30. Honestly the only issue Uncharted has ever had in terms of performance is some stray texture pop in when jumping into cutscenes.

If you keep the frame rate at the front of your mind going in, you will surely be hung up on it, but if you just try to enjoy it as is, I'm pretty certain you will appreciate all of the other stuff crammed into this game & its world more than the difference of 60 fps gameplay. Uncharted is about being transported into a high stakes adventure, and that should always take the front seat imo.
