The presentation and music is a real highlight that’s just marred by some overlooked gameplay issues and a number of bugs – ones that in many cases, are sadly game breaking ones. Hopefully patches will come and remedy the more pressing problems, and if/when they do, what is left will be a genuinely fun little title that is well worth picking up. Until then, I’d hold out for a while unless you’re absolutely desperate for some pirate-type action."

Making and drawing comparisons between games is a double-edged sword when it comes to reviews, in my eye at least. On one hand, comparing and contrasting is one of the more effective tools that one can use to inform and get one’s point across, and when it comes to games, there are plenty of differences and similarities among titles which helps to facilitate this style of writing.

XBLA Fans : Pixel Piracy review : Thar she blows

Pixel Piracy is an open-world retro pirate sim. That phrase alone will make Pixel Piracy an instant buy for many. It’s the type of game we dream of: adventuring, plundering, looting, training up a crew of pirates, crafting the best damn pirate ship on the seven seas. To top it off, press releases have name dropped Terraria developers as being part of the project. This was going to be epic. I could hardly wait. Ah, but avast me hearties, epic this is not. Pirates, ye be warned.
