Far Cry Primal Review | IGN

IGN:
Far Cry Primal succeeds in transporting the Far Cry formula back in time and comes to the table with a quiver of neat ideas and a dangerous and fascinating open world. The visceral and varied combat is fun, the beast-based gameplay is a winner, and the lure of camp-claiming, gear-crafting, beast hunting, and resource gathering remains irresistible. It’s weakened, however, by a disappointing lack of investment in its story, some often forgettable quests, and its vanilla villains, which unfortunately combine to make Primal feel like a step back from the memorable moments of Far Cry 3 and 4.

Wow, I expected a 9/10 from them... But then a lot sites are giving it score between 7/10 and 9/10

Was to be expected, imho it's more a mod with a new storyline then a new game.

If this was a FC4 DLC expansion, akin to Blood Dragon while been priced at around 15-20 bucks it could be the best most downloaded piece of DLC in history...it seems though as a full game it doesn't do a good job at selling its self, at least to me a long time Far Cry fan.

ginsunuva3743d ago

That's probably what it was supposed to be originally.

skratchy3743d ago

That would have been a brilliant idea actually. Blood Dragon was so much fun.

This is what happens with annual releases though. You get almost the same game, with a new coat of paint on it.

I was really expecting a rock solid 8. Surprised this only got a 7.9

This game had so much potential but looks to be a watered down casual joke. The moment I saw you can tame sabre tooth tigers, and use owls as b-52 bombers, I knew who this game was marketed for; the casuals. This game just doesnt feel like you vs nature. Instead, it feels like every other Fary Cry game ever. Way too easy, and NO survival suspense WHATSOEVER. I wish a game like this had Bloodborne type difficulty to make it feel like more realistic and suspensful. It should have had 4 seasons, more terrain diversities, you should be able to get sick and forced to look for herbs, honey, etc. Supplies should be very hard and scarce to come by, in winter time you should have to keep warm, etc. Instead we get this childish version thats far too easy and simplistic. No thanks, I'll pass.

Just say No to difficult games. I got enough problems with my heart.. don't need to make them worse by frustrating difficulty.

Hey everybody this guy didn't expect a Far Cry game to feel like a Far Cry game.....lol If you wanna play a more brutal survival game go play Rust or Don't Starve. Far Cry has always been geared at everyone, just like COD. There's nothing wrong with that either. They would be alienating their core audience if they made it as hard as Bloodborne. And while I loved Bloodborne you can't just copy and paste it's difficulty into Far Cry without pissing off a bunch of players. Difficulty doesn't make a game better unless it is built from the ground up around that concept. Far Cry is about hunting cool animals(and people)with cool weapons not difficulty.

eferreira3743d ago

Primal wasn't trying to be like the other Farcry games. The trailers did give you the idea that it was man vs nature.

Lisica3743d ago

I guess you didn't play Far Cry 2...

isa_scout3742d ago

You mean the worst numerical Far Cry game out of them all? Yeah, I played it, and couldn't deal with all the bugs on PS3. I've played every Far Cry game and loved them all except 2. I really disliked 2.

Tsunade3743d ago

I am glad the game is getting a lot of positives reviews.

pivotplease3743d ago (Edited 3743d ago )

They're pretty bad by farcry standards actually but this tends to be the fate of the spin-off game.

Edit: I'm still amazed at the fanboyism surrounding this game. Anything remotely negative gets swamped with disagrees even though we clearly have an example here of an uninspired and, based on the story criticism, somewhat incomplete game that could easily be considered a flop by franchise standards. Me and slot of my friends love farcry but all acknowledge 4 was a lesser game and 3 along with Blood Dragon was the peak of the series so far. I'm not sure why the sentiment online is so different...especially when Darcey 4 got a fair bit of flack in the comment section previously and now we have a game that deserves that flack getting a pass. I understand reviews aren't everything, but usually a mid-70 on metacritic is enough to realize the hype was unfounded. It doesn't mean it's a terrible game...it's just not amazing. I can accept it and wait for a price drop. Or skip it altogether since 2016 has an amazing lineup.

Silly Mammo3743d ago

It's averaging out at 8.0 right now. That's not too bad. Not every game has to be 9-10 to be fun.

pivotplease3743d ago

See the last part of my comment. I'm with you there. I own LBP3 which was also a flop by franchise standards (though mainly because of bugs) and it sits at a similar meta and I still think it's a great game. Of course it's probably fun. It's just not the kind of game someone like me with a backlog would pre-order at full price. It's actually at 76 right now and could drop to 74 because of typical last minute bombastic reviewers.
