If you play well continuously you'll rank up. If you start noticing you're being paired up with people above your rank, you're likely close to a promotion.

One nice thing about the new system: when you get promoted, you are PROMOTED. You have to lose a bunch to fall out of it. In the old system, you'd get promoted, lose one match, and fall back again.

I thought the same thing. To be honest, I'm surprised after this long they couldn't nail it perfectly but like they said with the ps4 version, the devs optimised it over time. The x1 will probably improve too

It doesn't seem demanding, but it actually is. In the early release, the title screen was causing people's PS4s and some GPUs to get hot as hell. Something about how they rendered the grass.
