Do you guys think this will be the last portable console sony makes? I dont think sony is supporting it with first party games and extra storage is ripping everyone off

porkChop3762d ago

I don't know if Sony would try again. They made so many mistakes.

- High price
- Grossly overpriced memory cards
- No built-in storage
- Very small amount of first party games
- Most first party games were made by B teams, not top talent
- No L2/R2 or L3/R3, making remote play incredibly difficult for some games
- Rear touchpad is useless and made holding the thing very uncomfortable
- Analog sticks slightly too small
- Terrible battery life
- Downright ugly UI

If they do make another handheld, a lot of things need to be done or improved.

- Worthwhile games made by worthwhile studios
- $200 max price point
- SD cards, support SDXC
- Built-in storage, at least 32GB
- At least 1GB RAM system, and 1GB VRAM, 128MB VRAM was just stupid
- Contours for your hands
- No touchpad, touchscreen, gyro/sixaxis or cameras, too expensive for little gameplay benefit
- L2/R2 and L3/R3, if L3/R3 can't be on the sticks then make buttons or something
- Wider, slightly taller analog sticks
- Functional UI, just use the XMB or PS4 UI
- Big battery
- Expanded Wifi capabilities, allow people to use campus/enterprise Wifi

i think theyll try again. they know what to do right next time around.

and thoes B teams did a phenomenal job on uncharted, killzone, LBPvita, and resistance wasnt horrible for a launch title. cod sucked but the biggest F^ was actually from their A team, zipper, which lead them to them getting canned. their B team slantSix did a better job than zipper.

I don't think they can achieve that $200 max point point with your specs. 1gb VRAM on 544p its not worth it i guess if only they upgrade the resolution. I guess they can remove touchpad its annonying on some games and remote play but no touchscreen. Really?

You are aware the Vitas battery runs almost the length of the unit. Any bigger and the system would be unnecessarily bulky and likely increase the price, which people would then complain about and use it as an excuse to not buy the system.

PoSTedUP3762d ago

i opened one of my vitas, the battery, in my 1000, is a little more than a quarter of the length and a centermeter shorter than the height. pretty short. idk about the 2000 but if its as big as you say it is then it should have way more than an hour more battery life than the 1000 especially considering its an LCD (i think oled drains more bettery, right?).

They made a lot of mistakes with the PS4, too, but it's selling like hot cakes. Conversely, they did everything right with the PS3, but that thing struggled for a long, long time before it took off.

Thing is... all a platform really needs to succeed is to do one thing really, really well... and all a platform needs to fail is to do one thing really, really poorly.

With all the moves they made back when PS4 was revealed- to launch, and as someone who loves playing on Vita, it would make me sad if they didn't make some sort of portable successor. I think, as other people have said, that they could knock it out of the park, if they have learned from their PS4 launch, compared to the Vita one. Hopefully they launch that Japanese bundle in the states/Europe/etc, and that it does well enough to encourage them. Vita owners buy games, and a lot of them. We just need more Vita owners.. 😓

Only if there's still a market there. I hate to say it, but smartphones and tablets have taken over a large chunk of the mobile gaming market. Nintendo's managed to hold on to their position with the 3DS by pushing out recognizable, well-developed first party titles you can only get on the system. Sony would need to do the same if they want to try again, and I don't think they care enough to try anymore. They've had such large success with the PS4 that they don't really need to.

Kaneki-Ken3761d ago

Yes but probably be exclusive to Japan since it's selling like hot cake over there the Vita. But may change since PlayStation is becoming americanize since their new main headquarters is in United States of America in Carlifonia and Sony Computer Entertainment and Network Entertainment merge so they be able to get more money, maybe market the next portable as great as Japan marketing.

Dragon Quest Builders will happen... :)

PoSTedUP3762d ago

vita is my main gaming hub. been catching up on ps3 games through PSnow while playing TLoU MP on vita as well. gonna grab BOFIII and RErevalations2 in the comming weeks. i build/work on my skyscraper in minecraft on my break and lunchbreaks. typing this from my vita, watch and read walkthroughs on this thing. cant wait for dragon quest builders. most ppl dont appreciate the vita like i do and they have a right. i play killzonemercs often too. also love the fact that ppl still play warhawk and i can play on my vita. only thing missing for me is socom and granturismo. ps1, psp, some ps2 remasters (&more on psnow), ps3 games, vita games, indies etc. couldnt live without this thing.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle40d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments
