With their third home console, Sony has launched their online service, the Playstation Network Platform. An attempt to match the popularity and success of Microsoft's XBOX Live, which is already four million members strong.
One thing that completely sets them apart from eachother is the price. Microsoft's XBOX Live Gold is about $50 annually, meanwhile the Playstation Network platform is FREE. It may be free, but this doesn't make it the better of the two...

Square Enix launches Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary site, revealing new Nomura art, books, music releases, and merchandise.
Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.
They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.
15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.
Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.
More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.
Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.
All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
i noticed advantages and disadvantages for both networks. it seems like a matter of personal prefernces on which is better. all in all, it doesn't really matter though, because it's not like there are 2 rival network types competing on a single console.
Kind of a flamebait article, but anyways xbox live a much superior service than playstation network IMO, i don't mind paying at all as it helps with the running of live.
yeah from what I hear PS3 has some "goodies" in the PS network, but overall it just doesn't match up to XBL, I mean yeah it costs (atcually you can get it alot cheaper than $50 bucks) but even $50 bucks is well worth it.....its online game related content and functionality is awesome....the time I've spent playing with friends and relatives that are a long ways away back home -hell it pays for itself!
Sony will try and copy alot of features that their service lacks compared to Live. I think they will find, however, that eventually they won't be able to add as much functionality as Live has and keep it free. I have had Live since before it came out (I got to Beta test it), and can't imagine gaming without it. After work I have plans to hook up with a buddy and finish Gears of War co-op playing as Dom to get those achievements, they we will do a little Rainbow Six. Playing Halo 2 live, and then Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter online with friends (some of whom I've never met in person, but they are friends now, all the same)rank as some of the most fun I've had, ever, gaming or otherwise. I just hope Sony doesn't mess up too bad by cramming too much in to copy Live and "beat" it feature-wise, because lag-free gameplay is the most important thing....
"You get what you pay for". As long as PNP is free, you will get a 'bare bones' network, just enough so Sony can say, 'hey, we got one too'. The advantages this article lists for LIVE all are due to the fact that LIVE is a unified network with unified services. This aspect costs money (resources, manpower, servers) and will be lacking from PNP until either Sony charges for it directly, or works the cost into the price of the console or games. Anyone who couldn't see this coming was just kidding themselves as you don't get much for free these days.
